Is Commander's Endorsement Mandatory?

I am a USMA reapplicant and I recently enlisted in the National Guard. My profile is complete but there is a red "X" that remains that says they have not received my commanders endorsement nomination. The box is a little more faded than everything else so I am not sure if it is mandatory or voluntary. I am going to request the commander's endorsement when I return from basic but that will not be until December. Is my profile technically complete or do they need a yes/no from my commander before reviewing my application?

I am aware that a nomination is mandatory and I already have one, but my question is whether or not I need this endorsement for my application to be rendered complete.

Your commander's endorsement equals RC nomination.

Completed applications get reviewed with or without a nomination. But if there is no nomination even if you complete your application now, the admissions office won't make any final decision concerning your appointment.

For you getting your commander's endorsement which equals RC nomination will greatly increase your chance of an early appointment with a complete application. The admissions office don't have to wait until your MOC submits his or her nomination if you have a RC nomination.

That's definitely good news, that's what I assumed at first but the red x was a small indicator I hadn't completed my file. Thanks!
