So what's it looking like for our class as a whole in terms of acceptance rate? I see class of '14 had a significantly higher rate then class of '13. Will that trend continue for us?

And how am I personally looking? I'm an AS200, been all in since day 1. Poli sci major (definite non-tech :shake:), 3.6GPA cumulative (as of now, will hopefully maintain that after this fall), 26 composite score on ACTs (would rather submit those then rolling the dice on doing better on the AFOQT). PFA is usually round 96, raw run time is anywhere from 9:10-30. I'm in AAS and am pretty active within the wing.

I don't know where I'd stack on the commander's ranking honestly, the cadre, to my knowledge, keep that info to themselves. I know I'm not hated by the cadre, but not much more than that.

The long term goal is get a pilot slot, but I'm just trying to focus on each stepping stone as I approach them.

It is way too early to know the numbers for SFT because that would come out of the AFROTC FY13 budget which will not be released until Oct. 1st.

Although the rate last yr seemed significantly higher, remember many dets. held mini-boards and told cadets up front if they were going to support them for an EA. Thus, those that were told a negative tended to voluntarily dis-enrolled from AFROTC. In actuality AFROTC only offered 100 more slots to AFROTC14 compared to AFROTC13. The 93% number is deceptive. AFROTC 13 had @60%, so if you do the math you will see that to only add 100 slots and jump 30% is pretty hard unless you reduce the applicant pool somehow. I recall our DS saying that from their det. they dis-enrolled about 25% of the C200's after fall semester. This occurred in various ways. Some were told that their stats would not cut it. Some found out they were not DoDMERB q'd and the road would end there. Some were counselled to see if they were ready to make this commitment, and decided they weren't willing to be tied to the AF for 6 more yrs.

Traditionally for the yrs past the actual numbers have remained the same.

Your cgpa is strong, but that ACT is going to hurt you and I would think about taking the AFOQT. You are going to need either the AFOQT or the TBAS for the rated board anyways. I can't recall the % the AFOQT/ACT accounts for, but it is a big chunk. If I do recall properly this is the yr that they are changing the weighting system for SFT, or they may have done it last yr. They reduced the CoC's ranking % and increased the ACT/SAT/AFOQT %.

I am shocked that you don't know your ranking, or at least the % (top 10, 20, 50%) because many dets give this at your end of semester review. When you have your next review, ask them where do you stand statistically. Pose it as a question regarding your AFSC board, and being non-tech while wanting UPT how to gain more points.

One thing to remember is when you go for the AFSC board, your ranking out of SFT will be part of your OML. Try to bump up that PFT to high 90's. As a non-tech going for a rated board, every point matters. Tech majors get an edge, thus you need to over compensate in all of the other areas, that includes, PFT, SFT ranking and the TBAS.

Our DS was a govt major, he leaves for UPT at Laughlin AFB in less than a few weeks. You can do it, but it is being the best at everything to feel competitive as a non-tech

Oh wow, I was completely unaware of miniboards being held within various dets. I don't think my wing had that...last spring we had 18 cadet's FT packages submitted, and 15 of them received EAs. And I heard the numbers were similar nationwide.

As for our commander ranking, that's kept pretty quiet too. Nobody in the last class knew theirs.

But what strikes as most shocking...my ACT score is really that weak? I thought 26 was competitive, or at the very least, average.

I'm going to talk to the cadre about getting lined up to the AFOQT now. I originally was going to wait to take it because a) I'm swamped this semester, b) I wanted to wait until I was POC to have two good shots while contracted to get a spot for UPT.

There's a lot of wisdom there Pima, I'll take it all into account. Thanks so much.

..also, when the FY budget for 2013 is released where online can I find it?

Sole there really is no need to find the budget, your det. will be informed of what the numbers will be looking like for SFT. From there they can eyeball what the stats will be needed for SFT.

If you look at ACT scores for scholarships they range from 28 -31 on avg depending type and major. Thus, a 26 is on the low end, and since you are non-tech it may become a factor. Our DS was AFROTC scholarship non-tech and his ACT was 33. If you recall AFROTC does not superscore, that is best sitting. There is a poster here who's DS did not get an AFROTC HSSP and he had a 34 ACT. He got a ISS last yr., but this yr he is a C200.

The rated board will meet when you are a C300, the results typically come out @ the same time as the SFT board results. For rated they traditionally prefer to use the TBAS over the AFOQT. That would mean you need to take that sometime next fall, now if you don't get rated, you may have to go and take the AFOQT in the spring for the non-rated board which means fall your C400 yr.

I have heard that they are changing the rated board to fall 400 yr., and then backing up non-rated to later in the 400 yr. I understand the reason why, but theoretically between the 2 boards, the 3 day flight physical, than base assignments, it would be lots of paperwork flying at the det for all 400's at one time. Add on top of that some will not get rated so they need to repeat the AFSC process for those cadets. Plus some will get alt., and later picked up. It is a lot.

The AFOQT is very sim to the SAT/ACT. My fear for you is the longer you wait, the more math and science is going to become a distant memory as a poli-sci major. I am assuming you probably only have to take 2 math and 2 sciences for your major. It is not going to be in your wheelhouse if you haven't taken these courses for 2 or 3 semesters like it would while you are taking the class now.

TBAS also has a unique item to it. If you have any flight hours you can bring your pilot log book to the test and they will give you points for those hours.

Finally, if 15 of the cadets went last yr. and your stats are on par or above those that attended, you should feel comfortable in where you stand currently. You will wind yourself up like a top if you concern yourself with this now. Results are about 6 months away. Use this semester to keep up the high cgpa, work out to pull up your PFA, and have fun.

I am not saying the PFA is low, but it is one aspect you have complete control over. Plus, Alabama in July is not pretty and cadets PFAs change because even at 6 a.m. it can be 90 degrees and 95% humidity which kills the body. As I said before that PFA will be part of your SFT ranking. For your OML, they will include your SFT rank which is broken down to DG, top 1%, 10%, 20%, 50% and below 50%. Every point counts especially for your AFSC boards

Quick update if you (or any AF cadets) are interested:

Just took the PFA (the one for the SFT package), got a 97.6. I'm pretty happy with that, whatever increases my odds.

I also had a form 48 counseling with my det's Commander a while back. He said I'm doing pretty awesome and to keep it up (he also noted nothing's absolute).

I feel very confident going up to the boards next February. As one of the cadets said in another thread, I'll shut up and color til then.
