MIP over the Summer

Hi, guys I got an minor in consumption in Vermont this summer, blew a .06. Story is too long to explain fully but I had a glass of wine with dinner then went camping with friends who were drinking when the cops showed up. I was refered to Valley Court Diversion Programs and completed one 3 hour class. The letter they sent me said the ticket was voided and there will be nothing on my record.

Today I received a document asking if I had gotten in ANY trouble this summer. I don't know what to do because I am afraid to lie because then I will get kicked out but I heard you can get dis-enrolled for a MIP or MIC too. What should I do?

BTW I'm a MSII and I'm not contracted but my LT COL said I am very close to getting a scholarship because I have a 3.6 GPA and 255 APFT

Fast forward yourself 10 yrs. You are in charge of troops, and one of them had the same scenario occur. What would you as an officer expect from your troop?

You have an honor code to abide by, in the end you need to be able to look in the mirror and feel confident that you made the right decision.

If you want my 0.0197534 cents, I would make an apptmt to speak with your leadership one on one. Tell them now. Take responsibility of your actions.

The ticket you received was voided because you completed Diversion Program. The Army will still see that the ticket was issued and you were sent to the Diversion Program. This will come out in the Security Clearance Application. If you do not disclose what happened on the paperwork you were given you may slip through the cracks...for a while. If you do get a scholarship and they find out later you will most likely be disenrolled and have to pay back the scholarship. If you happen to make it all the way through and commission and they eventually find out, you will again most likely be kicked out of the service. The point is, they will find out at some point. Lying on the form you were given will carry a bigger penalty then the MIP.

As far as being disenrolled from AROTC over the MIP, this will be up to your Cadre and Cadet Command. The Army has over the past few years taken a very hard line on alcohol violations. The fact that you are not yet contracted means you will not owe anything back to the Army. The first issue will be whether they allow you to stay in the program, the second issue will be whether they offer you a scholarship, with a MIP, that is probably unlikely at this point, again it will be up to the battalion and Cadet Command.

The best thing you can do is be honest, talk to your cadre as soon as possible and talk about your options.

I do have one suggestion, when you talk to your cadre don't say you had a glass of wine with dinner and then went camping but did not drink when you were there. a .06 does not happen after just one glass of wine that you had earlier in the day, just be honest with them.

If you had dinner at home with your family and drank wine (doesn't matter how many glasses), that is not illegal in many states. However, you know you screwed up when you then went to a place where minors (I am assuming your friends are minors) were drinking. The second action calls in to doubt the first action.

Tell them the truth and hope for the best.

Thx for the solid advice guys, I'm going to go in and talk about it tomorrow with the cadre. And yes I did have more like 3 glasses of wine with dinner.

Definitely this. I can tell you for a fact, 1 glass of wine will not yield you a BAC of .06. If you're going to tell us your story on an online message board, be straight forward.

This is not a good situation, as I'm sure you can tell. You can be upfront and tell your cadre and ride it out from there, whether good or bad. Or you can lie and hope nothing ever comes up, which is very very slim. As in probably not the best course of action.

Ultimately this all comes back to you and your integrity. It will not get better with time.
