Quick Question Regarding BOLC and MSO...

Hello all,

Question: If a cadet commissions out of ROTC and has to wait a significant amount of time to go to BOLC (say 9-15 months), does that count as time in IRR toward his/her service obligation or does the MSO begin when BOLC B is completed? I keep hearing issues about that purgatory in between graduation and BOLC and this was one question I hadn't seen answered yet.

It depends, but the MSO will not start until at least the beginning of BOLC. Some branches are have different time schedules. The MOS for Aviation does not start until they complete flight school, and that school take a minimum od 18 months. The best thing he can do is talk with his cadre about when the MSO starts for each branch. That purgatory you mentioned does not count at all for the MSO.
