NROTC Application Glitch

I'm filling out my application for NROTC and under the test scores section it asks for the the english and math score of the ACT. I got a 34 english and 32 math. but then it asks for your "Combined Reading + Math Score", so I'm assuming it means the scores added (32+34=66). However, when i enter 66 in the system it says that it is invalid because it can't be over 36.

I tried leaving it blank and it wouldn't let me continue the application. Has anyone else had this problem? What should I do? Should I just average the 32 and 34 to a 33? Thanks.

USNFilms: I presume they want your "composite" score in that section.

Others will confirm.

Exactly, they are looking for your composite, in your case it would be a 33.

One of my mids had that same issue. Once the score was entered incorrectly the website would not allow her to correct the score. She was able to log in fine and enter her application but she could not get beyond that page. She started with her recruiter but in the end it took communication with the NROTC office in Pensacola who connected us with the contracted webmaster. The issue took a few weeks to resolve because the one person who could remove the error message was on vacation and they had a very long backlog of students with the very same issue. You definitely need to be proactive on this issue so you don't miss a review board.

That wasn't the case with my mid. The composite score brought up the error. She was so used to giving the composite score that she thought composite and combined were the same thing. It could have easily changed in the past few months and they are asking for something different this year than last, but if he's not able to progress in his application, he probably has an error code in there somewhere that needs to be removed.

Composite is all 4 parts of the ACT, but they are asking just the M + CR.

For example the OP had:
M 34
CR 32
and maybe they also had in the other portions:
SC 36
WR 36

Their composite would be a total of 138, divide by 4, would be 34.5 or a 35, but they only want the M + CR, thus it is a 33.

I should have said combine, not composite, but that is the difference. Composite is all 4 avg out, combined is just the 2.

I am not saying there is not a glitch, I am just saying the reason why his numbers would not be accepted is due to the fact that they were not using the formula to reach the numbers that are in an allowable range. 66 is not a valid input.

Yes. But then they would be looking for a combined composite. My kid answered as you suggest but got an error message. Clearly this is why there was a backlog of students with the same issue. No matter how he got to this point, if he can't progress in his application he needs to get it resolved. My mid spent a few days trying to change her score, rebooting, trying different browsers, and a host of other computer things that I couldn't follow. Hopefully, USNFilms can avoid that and just get it fixed so he can submit.

I am not disagreeing with you, I was just stating that 66 would not be a valid entry, and before worrying that it is a glitch, try inputting the proper score. For all we know there is no glitch, it was just the fact that he put in 66.

Every yr there will be electronic glitches all over the place, it happens, and it will be resolved. If it is a glitch it is best to be on top of it because deadlines are deadlines.

The thing about the military is they expect you to be on top of your records/files. This is just the start of learning how important it is to be cognizant of this portion of your life.

My concern for this kid is that it won't be resolved unless he is proactive and calls Pensacola. He stated that he couldn't go on in his application. That's the problem with this error message for the NROTC application is that it doesn't give you an error message. The fact that he can't go on IS the error message. In the time I have posted he has probably tried 45 different combinations. It all seems to work fine but you just can't go to the next page. The previous pages are fine. Log in is fine.

What you are saying makes complete sense. But our experience with this issue on the NROTC application gave us quite a bit of frustration because we were looking for logical explanations and solutions. I suggest he throw logic out the window and find the one person who can press the button and fix the problem.

basil,

I think we are both in agreement, and we are just not communicating it correctly to each other.

If he enters 33 and he has a glitch, he needs to pick up the phone and get on top of it. However, before he picks up the phone and assuming there is a glitch, make sure you are submitting the right answer. In this case he didn't since he put 66. He will look pretty foolish when he does step by step with them, hits submit 33 and it goes through. Or when they say the reason why is you submitted 66. That was the OP's problem that we are 100% sure of at this time. It is not he submitted 32, 33 or 34, he submitted 66. I am with you if he submitted 33. Than there is a glitch.

Every cadet/mid needs to stay on top of their records, they should keep all hard copies on hand in a file to gain easy access to at any given moment. We still have every hard copy for our DS going all the way back to 07. We have it because it is safer with us in a fire safe than moving with him and getting lost.

I think we are both in agreement regarding this aspect.

I asked about this yesterday at my NROTC interview. They said to enter your composite score, as in the average of all four sections. So instead of entering 35 (my English and math scores were both 35), I entered 33, my composite score.
