Just wondering when DS will know. It seems like October for what they are doing and February for where they are doing it, but didn't know if specifics were posted somewhere.

Thanks to all who post here on this forum - it has been quite a ride!

Son squadron stated firstie will get their AFSC's October 4th.

Sorry for hijacking your thread but I have a couple of questions on AFSC:

1. When do cadets submit their choices of AFSC ?
2. How many do they submit ?
3. How does the AFA select who gets what AFSC ?

Thanks.

1. Around the end of August.

2. Cadets persuing a rated AFSC select three (i.e. pilot, nav, ABM) Cadets going non-rated select their top six.

3. Cadets are ranked using the board order of merit (BOM). The BOM is a committee that starts with a cadet's ranking via OPA (GPA + MPA + PEA), then can move a cadet's ranking up or down based on the whole package concept, i.e. what leadership positions has the cadet had... With the BOM complete, rated AFSCs will first be assigned starting at the top of the list, moving to the bottom. For non-rated AFSCs, each cadet's top six choices are put into a model, and the model essentially matches AFSCs based on what cadets want and are qualified for, and how many slots are available. In the past USAFA has done this independently of ROTC. This year, a combined model is being tested out and run.

So I guess in a few hours this thread will light up with everyone's AFSC. Good luck to all of you!

Our DD, squadron 28, got hers over lunch hour (distributed to all of 28 in that time period). She got her first choice and is very happy and relieved! Others should start reporting shortly, I would think -- as squadrons hand out the information. Not all are handing out at the same time.

Congrats to your DD!!!!! :thumb:

Many squadrons found out after lunch. Plenty of others (like mine) are waiting until this evening to reveal AFSCs.

Our DD got Finance -- her first choice. Her room mate got Acquisitions (her first choice) and another friend got Civil engineering (her first choice). So some good news so far!

Our DS's squadron found out tonight. After waiting all day we got the call tonight - Pilot Training. We are so proud of the Class of 2013 and the entire wing!

Heading out tomorrow from Michigan. Go AF! Sink Navy!

I'm waiting for 100s night so I can tell all the kids getting Laughlin they will have an old fogey impending-Captain in their class! lol Congrats to all who got their assignments! :thumb:

Our son is ROTC and was informed he is going to Sheppard AFB, ENJJPT program three days ago. Exciting time for all. I hope those pursuing the dream do not give up when one door closes. FLY through the window.

How competitive are Combat Systems Officer (Navigator) slots?
Are they practically guaranteed like pilot slots?
