OML Released

She did! Thanks for asking--she got Active Duty and is thrilled! We are happy all her hard work paid off.

Congratulations to your daughter.

Any word as to how many were selected for Active Duty or what the Cutoff Number was?

It's sad I have to get my information here. No one at my school has been informed.

Every battalion seems to do things differntly, some just post the results, some call the cadets into the office and some make a little ceremony out of it. Sort of makes this board the place for "BREAKING NEWS'

Best of luck to all your sons and daughters still waiting.

I got my score today and did decent. Got my reserve slot I wanted too  30 to 40ish percentile I think

Thanks! We had 2 or 3 guys top 100, all wanted MS and I guess they will get it! Good luck to everyone branching!

That's always a mystery to me.
that a Battalion would have 2-3 guys in top 100, or that they would have a first choice of the Medical Services Branch? I assume they'll be lent out to Infantry for the first 2-3 years anyway, wouldn't they?

Congratulations to everyone, and welcome to the home stretch. Hope everything worked out for the branches/reserve/AD slots you wanted.

Being in the top 10% the option to branch detail Infantry would be theirs.

I know a Major in the MS branch, he loves it.

jcleppe... I checked a slide deck I have for West Point accessions in 2011.

MS selections went from Cadet #5 to cadet #298 without using ADSO.
Infantry went from Cadet #1 to cadet # 577 without using ADSO
MI went from cadet #7 to cadet #262 without using ADSO

The two toughest Branches to get for 2011 were MI first, then MS. This is determined by how high on the OML a cadet needed to be to get their Branch without buying in with ADSO.

If I interpret the slide deck correctly, this was out of 1070 cadets. Therefore, Branching MI without ADSO required a cadet be top 25% of class, MS top 28%, and Infantry top about 52%

This contrasts somewhat dramatically with ROTC numbers, also for 2011, where the placement on the Active Duty OML necessary to get that Branch without using ADSO was:

AV: 16%
IN: 18%
MS: 23%
AR: 28%
EN: 30%
MI: 31%

To get from Active Duty OML to Total OML for 2011 requires multiplying the AD OML number by about .67 This means for an ROTC cadet to get Aviation without using ADSO, he/she would have needed to be at about the 10.5% of the total ROTC OML.

dunninla,

Great info.

I would doubt any cadet on the ROTC AD OML would be able to get Infantry without ADSO if they were at the 54% on the AD OML.

My comment above was, if a cadet is in the top 10% of the AD OML, as I would imagine the cadets that Aglahad mentioned will be, they will have the option of a branch detail but would not be required to take one for the MS branch.

After all the nurses were taken off the list and the final count for reserves factored in, my son just made the 10% mark last year. His original branch was MI with an Infantry detail. He could have selected MI without the detail had he wanted. After a long and twisting journey he was able to branch Aviation. If your interested in hearing that story, PM me, it is a real good example of the difference between what is written in the regs and what can really happen, you might find it interesting.

Interesting to see how the WP OML worked, thanks.

jcleppe... I added the ROTC numbers from 2011. You are right, Infantry required top 18% of AD OML, which is about top 12% of Total OML

it appears your son wanted to two very toughest Branches to get out of ROTC.
