Objee,

When USCGA calculates GPA on a 4.0 scale, are all high school classes taken into consideration, or are classes such as religion, art, or P.E. taken out of the calculation? On the same note, are honors/AP classes weighted more?

GPA is reported to the Academy by the applicant's high school, usually from the Guidance Department, so we do not "calculate" or change an applicant's GPA other than converting it to a 4.0 scale. For example, the high school reports your GPA is 88 on a 100 scale, we'll convert it to 3.52; the high school reports your GPA is 4.8 on a 5.0 scale, we'll convert it to 3.84. Any weighted courses or weighted GPA's would need to be applied by the high school prior to reporting the data to us.

That is very helpful,

is there a conversion scale that the public can view for home-converations?
Thank you.

I was just wondering, I I took all AP and honors classes and my GPA was a 4.2 on a 4.0 scale, how would you convert that, of would you take the unweighted GPA?

You take off a quality point for APs and a .5 point for each honors. This is assuming you made A`s in all of them.

I got that far, but when googled

to see if there was a standard, up to 3+ sources used 3.3 as a conversion for an 88, etc etc. Its not that big a deal, but I hadn't thought of it, but we will now as my DS's District does in fact use %, with no CR. I was curious in seeing there's a method, let alone now there seems to be a few of them. We only care about KP and CGA, hence the screename. For sure, 3.52 works better for him than 3.3. Thank you.

How Objee calculated the GPA:

88%= 0.88

Then,

0.88 x 4.0 = 3.52

A 90% would be 0.90 x 4.0 = 3.6
