My c4c DS is having a friend fly in to visit him and watch the football game. He is arriving around 8:30AM on October 6th and the Navy game starts at 9:30AM. Is there a shuttle to the USAFA from the airport? A rental car is not an option because he is under 21.

Any suggestions? His host family lives too far away to comfortably ask and all of the upperclassmen will also be at the game. Does anybody know how much a taxi would run if a shuttle is not available? Thoughts?

I don't know about shuttle buses, but taxi fare from the airport to the academy would be about $50.

Yea; a taxi is about the only option. Arriving at the airport at 8:30, assuming there was no luggage, will still be a 20-30 drive across town. No one's going to be able to get him back from the airport before the cadets come on to the field; flyovers; parachutes; etc... In other words; he's really best to just get a taxi and pay for it.

And the friend needs to have his ticket with him; I don't see how your C4C could get it to him since your cadet will be on his way into the stadium by the time the friend arrives on base.

FYI -- for those with USAA insurance, you can rent cars through them if you are under 21 and they waive the underage fee. Our DD (not a cadet but we are ret military) rented a car in San Diego this summer - and she was only 19.

He can buy and print off a ticket on-line ahead of time.

Taking a taxi could be much more expensive if there is a long line at the gates. Will they have the South gates open to the public on game day?

A taxi will be a lot more than $ 50. I live in Centennial and that is about what it would cost me. The Academy is at least 50 miles from our home. I would offer, but if that plane gets in at 8:30, there is no way to get to the Academy, parked, and in your seats by 9:30, you would be lucky to get ther by 10:30.
Can't he take a flight the night before?

I believe the individual is flying into Colorado Springs and not DIA. A cab from Springs would be a little over $50. A cab from DIA would be over $230.

That makes more sense. I was wondering as I read the thread how it would be possible to make it in that little time. I still don't think you can make it by kick-off if you get in an hour before. The airport at the Springs is at least 1/2 hour from the Academy on a good day. The traffic will be bad because of the game. Good luck to him. I hope I am wrong.

Yes, I would see if there is any possible way Friend can come in the night before. With that traffic, he won't make it to Falcon Stadium by 9:30. If he could fly in the day or night before there are many cadets who could spin by the airport and fetch him (and some "retired" cadets too).

There is a fee to download the ticket ($5?), but then he'll have it in his pocket.

Last time I went to the Navy game, it took an hour plus to get from Woodman to the stadium (5ish miles).

Taxi fare cost me $48 when I arrived for inprocessing at the p. I would assume the price hasn't changed much.
