CFA Scores - How do they look?

Just took the CFA today, after being stressed about it for several weeks. I practiced quite a bit but still could have done MUCH better (not happy with the run or the shuttle). Anyway, I did what I could given I don't play any strenuous team sports and am at a mild disadvantage. Do ya'll think these look like passing scores?

BB: 59'
Pull Ups: 9
Shuttle: 9.8
Sit ups: 95
Push ups: 55
Mile: 7:20

Thanks,
Jack

Jack,

First off, I love your name...that`s what my little bro`s name is

Anyhow, here`s the average CFA scores (This is what I found from 2009):
Mile: 6:40
Pullups 11
Situps 80
Pushups 58
B-Ball 67
Shuttle 8.9

So, you`re a little on the low side, for the most part.

Here`s something else I found that might interest you: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showpost.php?p=33335&postcount=14

Best of luck!

mile run

Mile: 7:20
That run time will need to be improved. Not only to get in but to also stay in.

My son is a goalie. He has to go really fast, three feet to the right and three feet to the left. My son started with the same exact run time as you and shaved it down to 5:40 for the CFA. It took him a year. Simply running and working out helped. But what also really helped was meeting occasionally with the schools form coach (we come from an area that cross country is bigger than football). He gave a lot of tips that my son didn’t know. Some were obvious (dont wear basketball shoes when you run) and some were not like chest back, elbows down. Contact the cross country or track coach. Explain what you want and why. They will help you. Good Luck

Bottom line is that they'll almost certainly be qualifying. However, in this super-competitive environment, you want to put forth the very best you can. Thus, if you think you can improve your run especially, it may be worth your while to do so and retake the CFA.

Well, when running under normal circumstances I am far faster. 6:30 usually. But after doing all that other stuff it comes down quite a ways..

Well, that's part of the test, right? Try to keep working out and once a week (or more? you have to judge) do the complete CFA just like you would in the formal test. Hopefully this will pull up both your score and specifically your run time. The better shape you get in the less the run time will suffer. Good luck!:thumb:

I was thinking same thing, kinnem! Great minds ...

And THAT order and timing of the various exercises thus standardizes the scores somewhat or at least removes some of the variability.

In fact, it's pretty fair saying EVERYONE would be far faster if they could do the run under "normal circumstances." And more pullups the day after doing the pushups. Etc. Go get 'em. :thumb:

CFA scoring takes into account the cumulative fatigue factor. The SAs are very aware of it. That's why I said that the run score would be ok, but not great. The reason is that there are many who can run a sub-7:00 at the end of the CFA. I would strive for that benchmark as an initial goal -- something with a "6" in front of it.

If, as a male, you can only do a 6:30 mile by itself, you WILL struggle during Plebe Summer. Males should be able to run a 6:30 pace over several miles (and probably a 6:00 single mile) in order not to struggle with running over the summer. Just saying . . .

Hey i'm just going to hijack this thread with the same question of how did I do for the CFA and whether or not i should retake it.

BBall: 63ft
Pullups: 17
Shuttle: 8.5sec
Crunches: 95
Pushups: 56
Run: 8 minutes

I know with the run I did absolutely horrible on and was unlike me since I would actually be able to run a sub 6 minute mile any other day. I realize that this is what they are testing for, but do you think it is imperitive that I resubmit it? I have already subitted it to the USNA btw.

See what I posted yesterday? Your scores are pretty average, give or take a couple things, but that run will really hurt you. I`d retake it if I were you.

Yeah I saw your what you posted, I just wanted to people's opinions on whether it is REALLY important to take it again because of my run.

An 8:00 mile for a male is not going to be impressive. Probably not a CFA failure but you have some work to do to be successful at USNA.

Anyone think I should retake mine?

Bball: 98 ft
Pullups: 10
Shuttle Run: 8.3
Sit ups: 95
Pushups: 53
Mile: 5:47

You'll pass, but work on those pushups. Get to 100.

Life will be better for you if you are in shape. I wasn't, and I'm still paying for it now.

I would not retake the CFA based on these scores (the most recent ones posted). Yes, the pushups could be better. But everything else is really good. Just work on improving your pushups in the next several months.

how to update CFA scores

My son has not been successful in getting response back from academy re: updating CFA.

Can anyone tell me how his coach can upload his second CFA test scores?

Thanks!

Thanks, I'll be certain to work on them

I called the admissions office, and gave them my P.E. teacher's name and email. They sent him an email where he could enter in the scores and submit.
