DS has completed all aspects of his Army ROTC application with the exception of "Medical"; does he have to do anything to initiate this part of app or will AROTC contact DoDMERB at the appropriate time? AROTC website did not seem to say much regarding this; DS has emailed ROTC directly to pose this question as well. Thanks in advance.

If selected for a scholarship, you will then be contacted and sent to take your physical. If everything else is completed, you are done at this point.

If you read the letter he received from Cadet Command, or soon will receive from Cadet Command, you will see that it says "The Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB) will contact you at a later date to schedule a medical examination." I know this process is a little confusing, but reading the instructions carefully will eliminate some of the confusion.

Thanks all. I think the web status caused our confusion..."Medical" was in there with the other items showing a status of "Not Received". We did see the letter from cadet command..just double checking.

Still very confused

I did read my letter very carefully but the Army website gives contradictory information:

"You are currently an active eligible applicant for an Army ROTC Scholarship. If all of the items below have been received then we have everything in order for your file to be reviewed by the Board.

Transcript: Received
SAT/ACT Scores: Received
Interview: Received
Physical Fitness Test: Received
School Choice: Received
Academic Major: Received
Medical: Not Received
Cadet Background and Experience Form: Received"

So I have a letter that says I don't need to do the medical until after the board but at the same time the official army website says that my application will only be considered by the board once the medical has been received - Which one is correct?

The letter is correct.

There was a change some years back where ROTC applicants were sent for the DODMERB physical prior to being awarded a scholarship. I'm sure this got way too expensive. My surmise is that what you see on the web site is an artifact of that process.

Kinnem is correct, if that's what the official site says then you are good to go for the first board.

It is correct that the medical has not been received, what it doesn't say is that it is not required to be received before going before the board. They really need to change that, it causes a lot of confusion.

Good luck

When is the first Board?

Also, how soon does the application have to be in by to be reviewed by the first Board?

The board works on a queue system, those that submitted before you will meet the board before your application. If you are just submitting now, realize there are people that started submitting months ago.

Additionally, just because you are boarded does not mean they will award a scholarship. Look through last yrs and the yr before thats threads here. There are a ton that were re-boarded before they were notified of the results.

This is a roller coaster ride that can last about 6 months.

So we do not actually find out the results of the first board until October 15?

You might not get an answer in October, you might get "at this time..."

I would be prepared for the "at this time" notification when it comes to the 1st board.

OBTW if the board meets 15 Oct. you won't here for a week or two later. The 15 Oct date is when they meet and do the scoring. They do not meet for 1 day, it is a couple of days. They will than compile the list, submit it, authenticate it, and that list goes through the chain for release.

On a good day, I would say 22 Oct.

Key word missing from that 15 date...RELEASED.

It takes up to a week for the board to review the applicants.

I would not expect to hear anything until, at the very soonest, the first week in November. There have been boards that have taken nearly 2 months to see the results. Normally the first board is the quickest in getting the results out.

the date of the board is the date that 3-5 Lieutenant Colonels sit in a room with about 2000 files and go through each one and give it a score. Once all the files are scored then cadet command looks at the schools on the list in each file and determines which offers to make. If you do some rough math you will realize this takes a little time. November is a good estimate of when you will hear. The other determining factor will be that offers have to be made and accepted or declined before the results of the next board are released for subsequent boards. Welcome to the Army ROTC scholaship process!!
