USNA Concern

Hello All,

I've been getting very anxious about the Naval Academy. I received an LOA from Coast Guard, an NROTC scholarship to the Citadel, and an LOE from West Point, but still nothing from USNA. I received an email from my admissions officer saying:

"Your record has actually already been reviewed by the USNA Admissions Board and you were found qualified scholastically. LOAs are granted on a rolling basis, and due to the competitiveness of your record, you may receive one."

This was dated 17 September. My medical from DoDMERB came back all clear a couple of days ago and my BGO sent me an email saying that I should know soon. Anyone have any idea when I should find out? Thanks!

Patience danwild! It is still monumentally early in this game!

Your guess is good as mine on the "when."

As WP said: Patience, it is still early in the game. DD got her LOA very late. Hang in there.

I would also note that USNA's letter said you "may" receive an LOA. Unless you've received new information, that also means you may "not" receive one.

So, patience is the key, miserable as it may be.

Borrowing this thread.

I know that there isn't any official "deadline" for LOAs, but to all you BGOs out there - what is the latest you have heard of someone receiving an LOA? I am a reapplicant at college. They won't open my file until I get my first semester transcript in, is there still any possibility that I get an LOA in late December or January if I am competitive enough? Or would that not be feasible?

I wasn't trying to imply that I would receive an loa as a certainty, just getting a little anxious is all.

LOA is not the Holy Grail. Still have to go through DoDmerb which can be brutal. Believe me I know.

Sounds like he already crossed the DoDMERB bridge.

I honestly can't recall the latest I've seen an LOA go out. Maybe late Nov/early Dec. My memory could be failing me, however.

Patience :)

Two years ago my son received an LOA to AFA and West Point. His number one choice was USNA. He never received an LOA, but received an appointment in early December. Hang in there and good luck!!

You aren't likely to receive an LOA, because by the time USNA processes your transcript, file, and are reviewed, it is likely that it will be at the end of January, when nominations are due. You could receive a conditional offer of appointment if you were found competitive (essentially USNA really wanted you) and you had not completed or satisfied the medical/physical requirements. Otherwise, you would have a nomination (or not), you would have your DODMERB/CFA done, so everything would be completed that would require a decision on whether you would receive an appointment or not. In other words, if they were that intent on giving you an LOA, they would just hand you the appointment.

that matches my recollections from the prior two years.

Thanks for the replies. Since I am a reapplicant, my DODMERB was completed with my application last year and clears me medically. I was 3Q'd last year (or received no notice that I was not), and nothing has change but improvement, so I should be okay! Taking ACT one final time on the 27th and just waiting around on nominations until the end of the semester when I can send in my transcript.

If you pass DoDMERB and have leaped that hurdle that is the biggest disqualification for LOA. Good luck!

I know someone in Class of 2016 receive one in April. I suspect it was because he was waiting on dodmerb and USNA wanted to let him know they wanted him.

Don't know about funny, but I saw lots of CG Cox'ns take a beating running LCI and LSTS into beaches in 1944. Lots of courage there if you ask me.
