Just back from West Point, son stayed for night with a Plebe, drove out to Camp Buckner, went to practice/tailgated/and enjoyed ourselves afterwards. We met with the head of admissions at half time of the game (pretty amazed he would take the time on a Saturday afternoon). The cadets are amazing. They are great kids. Contrary to popular belief, they appear to be happy and even get to have fun at times. A trip out to the Air Force academy this week end, a few days of contemplation and then big decision time.

The head of admissions is a 'she', COL Deborah McDonald.
Glad y'all had a great weekend.
When trying to choose between different SAs, these visits really help with the decision making.

Just curious - why the rush on the decision?

My appologies, for the confusion, the Associate AD for Recruiting and Admissions Support. There are a few reasons we hope to conclude the search; the past few months have been a long haul with recruiting trips and we would like to put the decision behind us so that my son can get back to focusing on school and athletics. We are approaching the end of early recruiting season for athletics and the early signing period - offers being extended the second week of November. We do not feel there is a lot more information to be gained after this. He can make a choice of traditional college (a couple of Big ten schools) or military academy. He could drag this out forever and let the decision torment him, but I think he has the data. A nice sheet of options with the pros and cons of each, a little soul searching and a decision. We will talk, if he needs more time, then we will consider more time. There are others who would like this opportunity if he does not. I think he is pretty much ready. He has said he does not think he will change his mind, he is pretty sure he wants to go to West Point. We have one more trip (to AF academy) this weekend.

He has had two visits and likes WP even more after this trip. There has been only one sticker on his car ever and it happens to be Army. I will be happy for him even if it is Big Ten. He has always been a very respectful and wondeful son and he deserves to be happy. We'll see.
