I applied for an AROTC scholarship on the first board. My dad is in the Army and I'm a girl and I have been to three high schools. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.89 (no class rankings)
ACT: 32
Sports: Freshmen yr (school in CO)- XC and track, Sophomore yr (school in NY)- no sports, Junior yr. (school in VA)- JV field hockey (co-captian) and Varsity crew, senior yr. Varsity crew.
AP courses since Junior Yr.: 8
I maxed the interview, but I did poorly on my fitness test, PU:37, SU:34, run:7:42
My number one school is Vanderbilt.
What what my chances, realistically? How much weight will my fitness test carry?

I am currently on a 4-year scholarship and your high school academics are stronger than mine were. That can be a good indication. Neither of my parents have served. My candidate PFT was not too much better. However my school's tuition is a third of your top choice. Tuition of school choices may be a factor, but I am uncertain. But based on my application experiance, I think you have a good chance. Remember if you do not get one from this board there are still other boards. I was a January board recipient.

thanks! If i get re-boarded i plan to retake the PFT and resubmit it, I know i can do better, I was in pretty bad shape when i took that test. Do you know if they use my better scores? Also, does it help at all that I have been in contact with the PMS from Vandy. He contacted me first saying i was a very strong candidate, does he have any say in the decision process, or does he just approve me once the board has decided to give me a scholarship?

does [the PMS from Vandy] have any say in the decision process, or does he just approve me once the board has decided to give me a scholarship?
the only say is if your Interview was with the Vandy PMS, and that say is limited to the Interview score and comments, and the only power the Vandy PMS has is to veto Vandy as a scholarship accepting school for you. National Scholarships are awarded out of a National Board. I think four years ago and prior, it was a different process where each PMS awarded a lot of HS 4 year scholarships based on the PMS evaluation of the applications. Not any more.

Also, does it help at all that I have been in contact with the PMS from Vandy.
It helps in a way you might not at first appreciate... IF you don't get a National High School Scholarship Award and you DO get into Vandy and matriculate and also join ROTC w/o a scholarship, and assuming that PMS is still at Vandy next year, your PMS can award you an On-Campus 3 yr. scholarship in the middle of your 2nd Semester at Vandy. This would be in competition with other MSIs not on scholarship. Therefore it is good to make a good first impression, which it appears you have done.

My interview was with the PMS at Georgetown, but i know he gave me full points and good comments, he told me he did. So i guess now all i can do is wait for the board results....which is the worst part!

I am fairly certain that if there is any improvement, as long as you inform Cadet Command, they will add it. It is good that you are talking to your 1st choice's PMS. I was in close contact with my school's PMS during the whole process. They can "put their vote out" for you but that can only do so much at the national board. You may also get a 3 year Advance Designee Scholarship. This means that you will attend your first year without scholarship but then contract and get the financials starting your sophomore year. Last year Cadet Command awarded a bit under 1000 4-year scholarships and another 1000 3-years. And if I were to guess; Cadet Command will give more 3-year scholarships this year. But like I said, your academics are top noch and I wouldn't sweat too much about the PFT, especially with a maxed interview.

I believe the only items that can be updated to your file if you are not selected by the first board are SAT/ACT scores and School selections. I do not think you can update you PFT scores after the first application deadline.
