I'm not a recruited athlete, but my portal shows "letter of assurance" today.
Now just waiting for the nomination!

LOA

That is wonderful and I am sure it relieves some of the stress. My DS still says applicant so at least we know some are going out. Are you one of the Rock Star students? if not an athlete....
Regards
John

LOA

Congrats!! Now it feels good all that hard work has paid off.

Push Hard, Press Forward

Great! Now go nail that nomination! Impress impress! (and don't wear sneakers!)

Usafa2017,
Congrats!!! All your hard work is paying off!
Which state are you from? And when did you complete the application?

leeusafa:
CA, I finished the application on about October 13 or so.

I'm not sure if I would be considered a "rock star" student. I could post stats if that would help.

LOA

Hi
No, that fine, I was just wondering more about the date. MY DS finished a week after you so with any luck we may see his soon. Once again, great job! Hope to see you in after BCT looking tired and tough!!
Regards
John

@Usafa2017
If you would post stats that would be awesome, thanks.

Academics
Unweighted GPA: 4.0 (School does not do weighting)
USAFA didn't refigure my GPA or I didn't see it change, since the portal still has my school's reported GPA.
Rank: 1 (School ranks all 4.0s as 1s)
SAT: 790 CR, 750 M, 790 WR
SATII: MII 800, USH 800, PHYS 800
AP/Honors classes: Everything that my school offered, but what I remember:
Chemistry Honors, AP Chemistry, Calculus BC, Spanish 56 H, World History Accel, English Accel, AP English Comp, AP Spanish, AP US History, Math 73 (Multivariable Calculus), Math 78 (Differential Equations), Physics Honors
Currently taking: AP Physics B, AP English Lit, Government Honors/AP Macro, AP Stats
AP tests taken (All 5s): Calculus AB, Calculus, BC, Chemistry, English Comp, USH, Spanish
Academic Awards: AP Scholar with distinction, National merit commended

Extracurricular
USAFA SS participant (Although I think I forgot to include that on the PDR)
Boy Scouts:
Eagle Scout
Senior Patrol Leader/Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for troop
Senior Patrol Leader of 300+ person campout for my district
Order of the arrow (I don't think I included that)

Speech:
President of largest/#1 ranked speech team in United States
16 time elimination round participant in debate/speech, state qualifier twice in two events
Director of outreach program for middle school students
Director of 300+ person tournament for middle schoolers 2 times a year (We managed to get people from British Columbia and The Philippines to fly in, that was pretty cool)
As of a couple of days ago, National Forensic League All-American, but that wasn't on the app when I submitted it.
National Forensic League Superior Distinction (Wasn't on the app either)
Was VP and an event chair the years before I was president.

Athletics:
Tennis for three years. Varsity for one.
Might be captain for the coming year, but not sure. (Not on the app)

Employment:
Employee at a math tutor place for two years, then the last year I was made the IT manager.

Other XCA:
Miscellaneous volunteering and other things.

Recs:
I assume that they were good. I sent in the extra three on top of the required evaluations. I had my physics honors teacher do the "other" evaluation.

CFA:
Max on the sit-ups and push-ups, but rather average scores on everything else. Mile run was below average, as was the shuttle run.

Essay:
I thought it was alright. Nothing spectacular, though.

My congressional representative called back today to confirm that they receied my packet, too. The interviews are due in December.

Wow

Thats the resume of a future F-22 pilot or General. Congrats! Well done!

Amazing stats, congratulations!!
Did you receive the physical letter on the same day as your portal changed?

Congratulations mate! That's some pretty stellar work you've done in high school! Give yourself a pat on the back! :thumb:

I received the physical letter in the mail today, November 5. Letter is dated November 1, 2012. It reads:

"Congratulations! THe Academy Board has approved you for admission to the United States Air Force Academy class of 2017. You are virtually assured of an appointment upon receipt of a nomination.

Please be aware that if you have any outstanding requirements (final medical status, candidate fitness assessment, college/prep school transcripts) your appointment will be conditional pending receipt of those requirements.

(Four lines talking about the Academy)

You are to be commended for compiling such an outstanding record. If you have any questions concerning your status, please write or call the Academy Admissions Office. We wish you success throughout the remainder of the academic year and hope to see you when the Class of 2017 enters in June."

Feels good having the actual letter in my hand. (I kept checking online because I thought it might have been a mistake)

Congratulations. I cannot even imagine what it must feel like right now for you. You have well deserved such honor, and I really hope to see you on I-Day.

Was that the first batch of LOA's or was that the only batch of LOA's?

I'm not sure. From what I have read the board first met at the end of October/beginning of November, so I would assume that this was the "first" batch of LOAs for non-RAs. I can't say anything about its being the "only" batch, though.
