1. I am on prescription acne cream (tazorac) and acne antibiotics (minocycline) (NOT acutane!) I listed this on dodmerb and qualified. How do prescriptions work once you get to usna? Can I continue to take acne medication?

2. When are civilian clothes worn? How much civilian clothes are brought, needed? How about gym shoes?

3. Do some of the sports (not varisty D1), extracurriculars have fees associated with them? I mean how much money do I REALLY NEED to bring to be able to fully participate? (I know tuition, room and board are taken out of my 'salary') but what about the rest. Should I get an afterschool job from now until June?

4. has anyone had visitors (girlfriend) from another college visit? If so how does the logistics work?

Thank you for your time.

The answers to questions 2 and 4 will change depending on your class year. Are you talking about life as a plebe or over the 4 yrs?

Any prescriptions you need will be covered. You just have to pick them up at the medical clinic in Bancroft Hall. Any medical, dental, psychological, etc. problems you currently have or may incur will also be covered. They'll send you to Walter Reed if they need to.

No civilian clothes until 2/C year, and even then, only during liberty. 3/C and above may wear spirit gear (stuff with or related to Navy, USMC, or USNA) in company area after dinner.

Some sports do require a fee for equipment. As far as I know, none of it is out of pocket cost, it's just deducted from pay like all the other uniforms and issued materials. So no, you shouldn't have to worry about stockpiling money (though having extra cash is always a good idea). Tuition, room, and board are actually free. Most of the cash deductions from pay are due to uniform/book issue and repayment of the ACE Loan.

Visitors can walk on the Yard at any time. All they need is photo ID; we get tourists all the time. They may not go inside Bancroft Hall; the only exceptions are Plebe Parents Weekend and 2/C Parents Weekend.

My questions were for plebe year. I will figure out the rest when I get there.

thank you for the answers!

During plebe year, you can't have visitors during Plebe summer. While anyone can walk on the Yard at any time, there are rules relating to your interacting with them. The best advice is general is to make sure visitors let you know in advance when they plan to be around so that it works with whatever obligations you might have (i.e. being on duty/watch, sports, etc.)

I would assume due to increased security awareness, we have found that when visting our mid in the evening, he is expected to meet us after we pass through security. During the day anyone can walk on the Yard if they show a photo ID.

more questions

To mids:

what was one thing from home-or extra thing that you brought that you were glad you did?

What were you most surprised about?

When you get a box from home what do you most wish is in it?

theyll probably take your meds from you for the summer. you can get them re-prescribed after plebe summer.

Things I'm glad I brought from home/had sent to me:

for plebe summer- good compression shorts

for ac year- my own blanket

What did I wish for in my boxes- letters. keep in mind, anything more than one care package a week will just cause more stress. especially when they contain obscene amounts of cookies and such. the parent websites tell them to send extra to share with your platoon. tell them not to. aint nobody got time for that during plebe summer. but seriously, not getting to read your letters because you have to find something to do with a ton of stuff you were sent in a package sucks. however, fruit snacks are really nice because you can eat them in your rack and not have to worry about mice finding you (they dont leave crumbs). colgate wisps are great too because you can brush you teeth in your rack after you enjoy your fruit snacks...

This is partially unrelated, but I was also wondering about things to bring...would they allow you to have foot powder during Plebe Summer? If so, should I bring some, or is there a means of getting some during Plebe Summer?

I brought nothing but the clothes on my back and my paperwork. I was fine.

You're issued everything you need.

To answer your question directly, I was issued a nice big bottle of Gold Bond foot powder.

I am currently a plebe and I still remember this last summer fairly well. The one thing I wish I had brought were my own compression shorts. They issue them to you but they are not of the best quality.

I was most surprised about the amount of hurry up and wait scenarios there were. You will constantly be studying your reef points while you are waiting.

When I got a box from home, the most important part were the letters from my family and my good friends that were always included. Cookies were always delicious but that contact with the outside world was great. Also pictures are a must.

Just keep in mind, your detailers will be "inspecting your package." Right, wp4prez?

Can you just bring any blanket you want? I am assuming the beds have to be made...

Most plebes sleep on top of their blue blanket and sheets and under other blankets. Beds are pinned or bound so they look perfect and do not have to be remade.

Of course, this is ac year only; during plebe summer you will remake your rack several times a day.
