Academy Dean of Faculty Brig. General Born to Retire?

Polaris:

One of the first things that is drilled into your head (at least when I was enlisted in the 90s) is OpsSec (Operational Security). Any leak of information no matter how mundane can be used against you. The enemy collects enough mundane information and they start painting a picture of what's going on. So I understand where both Dad's are coming from; especially considering from an institution that is grooming men and woman to lead and they can't keep to this simple tenet.

Over reaction. She's retiring as Dean not an earth shattering operational security top secret confidential report.

I hate to break the news but most stuff like this is leaked before it happens.

By the way
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) — The Air Force Academy says Brig. Gen. Dana Born, the dean of faculty, is retiring.
Academy spokesman Lt. Col. John Bryan said Thursday that Born will step down next summer.
Born has been in charge of the faculty at the school since October 2004. She is a 1983 graduate of the academy and was a professor at the school for two years before that.
She received a doctorate in psychology from Penn State in 1994.
The academy has about 4,000 students and is located just outside Colorado Springs.

"Loose lips sink ships"

Before everyone on here feels the need to lecture me on operational security. I'd like to point out that this stuff happens all the time at the Academies. Case in point Brig. Gen. Patrick Finnegan's retirement was leaked well in advance of the official notice and it was leaked that he was taking over as president of Longwood College. Did the terrorists get a leg up on USMA due to this information? No!

Very true but if they can't do this what hopes do we have when it does come to the important stuff? Also you can consider peoples leave not earth shattering as well but during the Vietnam conflict it was exactly what the enemy used to plan attacks because it was posted on the wall for anyone to see.

While I 100% agree the information isn't a big deal what I'm saying it's principle behind the tenet that is not being followed is what upsets people.

Get some what back on track it would be interesting to see if this position goes to a civillian and if it does will it have the same rotation cycle?

Everyone assumes it was someone with malicious intent. It could have easily been BG Born leaking it to get feelers for her civilian job, hoping to walk into a six figure presidents job at a small college.

Many of these officers at thatrank are recruited and have the job in place before they punch, thus they don't leak to put out feelers.

However, that being stated you don't know if wherever they are going upon retirement has placed out their own press release, hence it was the new employer, not the AF that leaked it.

As a BG I would be shocked if they weren't offered at least 250K. An O6 in the DC area starts off around 175K GS salary. An O5 is around 125K. So you can see as an O7 250 is probably their starting salary.

Sorry must have cross posted with you. It looks like we're are going back and forth on the specific vs. the general and yes I agree with you on the specific.

I'm more interested to hear from everyone that's been there done that on a civilian running things at the AFA. I have no content to draw from and hope those that have gone to an SA chime in on that part.:thumb:

You are talking about GS jobs ie continuing to live off the government teet. As Dean of a major university she is sure to get 200+ working as a president of a small college or university. Again, she has a year to go wouldn't be surprised if she leaked it herself.

Why would you like to see them fired?

Per the article, it said "....according to a source that did not want to be named."

Assuming it was an AFA employee, why didn't that person want to be named? you know the answer. That person cannot be trusted with private information.

The Deans at USMMA and USCGA are civilians.

What did that person violate? What UCMJ code did they violate and how do you not know the BG Born told them to leak it. Or maybe it was a cadet or even the Superintendent! You make too many assumptions. It's not end of the world stuff, it was leaked about 18 hours before going public.
There are much worse things leaked by the military than this.
