For those who are interested in applying to VMI, here's some current info on new cadet recruiting that I received today from the VMI Alumni Association:
  • Class of 1993 had 1000 applications; Class of 2016 had 2146 (good recruiting news)
  • To transfer to VMI, you need a 3.4; high school GPA's average 3.5
  • 53% in state and 47% out of state in Class of 2016 (current rats)
  • 1158 average SAT/26 average ACT
  • 36 states & 7 countries are represented in the Rat class including 4 from Mainland China and 5 from Taiwan
  • Most popular majors in the Corps are Mechanical Engineering & International Studies
  • Many local VMIAA chapters are hosting New Cadet Recruiting Dinners
Here are a few related comments GEN Peay made recently:
  • Out-of-state recruiting out of state is a focus. We are at 58%-42% in/out of state now and the goal is 55%-45%.
  • 1664 cadets in barracks, a new record; higher than expected (typically, only half of admitted applicants actually matriculate, but it was higher than that this year)
  • 167 females in the Corps
  • Fewer ROTC scholarships are available, with war winding down
  • 1288 of 1664 cadets play NCAA or Club sports

Keep these things in mind as you finish high school and begin working on your applications.

Good luck!

in reference to the SAT, is the average score reading and math combined (the two part) or is it reading, math, and writing (three part)?

What she referenced is the Critical Reading and Math score. Does not include the Writing score.

I sent in my application and every other possible needed thing (paper, not electronically. I don't trust computers). Everything shows on my profile

Just waiting and hoping to receive any info or maybe an acceptance letter

VMI acceptance

When does VMI notify applicants if they have been admitted?
Does VMI have rolling admissions?

Just attended a brief in Norfolk where the admissions office stated that this year they are going to be sending out acceptance letters very close to the 15 December timeframe.

That is only for early decision though, correct?

that information is applicable to the early decision applications. They stated they were letting more applications come in before they selected this year, that's why results are going to come out closer to the early decision deadline than in years previous.
