Varsity Letter V. Dual Enrollment?

I'm currently a junior in high school and have to decide between taking an extra dual enrollment class at my local community college or getting my second varsity letter during the next semester(my first was for golf, but I also am doing JV Soccer). The letter would be for track and the class would be Intro to Meteorolgy w/Lab. Next semester I would be taking 4 AP Classes (MacroEconomics, World, Literature, and Calc AB). I would still be involved in my EC's (President of Key Club, DO in AFJROTC, NHS, and much more). I would do both, but the times for meets and class conflict, and this is the only academic course that fits my current schedule. But my main question here is what would benefit my application/resume to the academy most another sport or additional college class? Thank you for your time and input!

Hi there, don't take my opinion as necessarily being correct, but to me it seems as if you already have a really strong course load with your APs and it might be better to get another letter instead of taking the class at your community college. I'd think that having a letter in a more physically demanding sport than golf (sorry golfers) might look better. I'd wait to get some more opinions though.

College or Sports Letter

Hi
I agree that if your GPA is good that it may be better to showcase your athletic ability by doing another varsity sport. IF on the other hand if your GPA needs a boost then a college A will help.

My first thought was, "What do YOU prefer?". It is difficult predicting which will have the greatest impact on your Whole Candidate Score (WCS) as USAFA does not report their scoring method. That being said, you really have to do what you would enjoy most. Do not waste your time "gaming the system" to get the best WCS. Be active in clubs you are interested in, try and get leadership positions where you can. Participate in a sport because you enjoy it, not because it MAY (or may not) help your WCS. Take the most difficult classes that you can as long as you can manage your schedule.

Best Wishes. :thumb:

Agree with Dad above but would add this:

Do you actually have an interest in meteorology as a subject/major? Are you short on Science on your transcript? Are you short on the more difficult subjects?

Now, is the letter going to be a "JV" letter?

As a mother, I always erred on the side of Academics for my kids. I would ask them, what besides just the letter do you want to get out of the track experience?

You might consider getting a p/t job or a volunteer position in your community instead of either a sport or the extra class. Nothing like either of those for life experience.

Thanks for all of the input! I've made my decision, and I'll be doing track! I love both meteorolgy and track, but I can always take the class next year! Track will fit in better on my schedule with my extracurriculars too (volunteering every weekend doesn't leave much time for oodles of homework, or studying for the ACT/SAT)! But thank you again for all of your help and sharing your knowledge!
