My DS received his BFE 15 minutes ago -- pretty exciting moment! He'll be visiting this weekend -- very important time for him to help with the decision making process. My wife and l are looking forward to taking him down and seeing the area for the first time. We're not far away in NJ. Received a lot of great feedback on hotel accommodations from my earlier post today. He wants to be the one to add his info to the Appointment list -- he'll do that sometime this evening I imagine.

Congrats to your son!

If you don't mind me asking, how strong was his academic record?

Small private school -- #1 of 44 -- 4.0 -- SATs first time 690/620/620 -- second time 710/710/670 -- ACTs 33/32/32/29. Capt of Baseball team and Soccer team, Boys State, Class President -- that is a good brief summary -- hope it helps.

Not tough imagining the joy of that moment! Congrats! Now the REAL work begins. Here's hoping that the visit goes well. Cannot imagine anyones not loving a weekend in Annapolis and the Yard. One of the best visits possible! And sure beats a winter weekend on the Hudson, the Connecticut, and the eastern slope of the Rockies!:thumb:

I kind liked the eastern slope of the Rockies enough to spend four years there. I'll route for Navy as long as they're not playing AF!

Then you can really add some needed value to this forum, should your offspring matriculate to USNA.

Few really grasp the significant difference in the disparate cultures of these two fine and rather different places. And it's always surprising to hear candidates lumping these institutions together. Looking forward!

And nice as Colorado Springs may be, it confounds travel from NJ a bit. More seriously though, imo, is the monumental difference between the two. And same holds for WP.

Winter Trials is this Saturday. This year will be the first time the entire plebe class participates (it used to be just a first battalion thing).

Perfect timing for a visit.

Can you provide more info on "Winter Trials?

I really have no idea, other than that it's like Sea Trials but in the winter and shorter.

I will undoubtedly be able to provide more information on Sunday.

Congrats to your DS FlyBoy522! Can I ask what the source of his nomination was? Being from NJ I was surprised to see an appointment so early...unless of course it was Presidential, etc... Thanks!

Congrats! What a great feeling of accomplishment for your DS.

DS's dad is a USAFA grad too! I just purchased "Brief Points" for him for Christmas so the family could start getting acclimated to "The Navy Way".

My Plebe believes Winter Trials are from 5:00 to 14:00.
She won't be participating due to a Crossfit competition in NoVa. The USNA Crossfit team will be competing at this event.

He is on the summarized appointment list already as STLCards2012 -- Presidential. Has Congressional and Senatorial interviews in Dec - Lautenberg on Sunday night. Applying to WP also so he is pressing on with interviews.

DD is a plebe in 28th Co. USNA put out a something about them yesterday in an email to the parents thru the USNA Alumni Association. 0500-1200 is the time. DD filled in this evening with a few texts they are likely doing the Endurance Course (E-Course) which is a 4ish mile run with some obstacles. Ground Fighting??? and maybe Paint Ball. I know some plebes are suffering and it is really hard but so far DD thinks she may be mentally ill because she loves it there. Is it hard? Yes. Does she spend all her time studying and getting yelled at? Not a chance. Its only as fun as you make it! Minutes and hours can be long according to her but days and weeks fly by.

So. Winter Trails.

Not that bad. I'm tired and sore in many places, but that's to be expected. Ended up just being a really long morning of PT and E-Course. Paintball was cancelled, unfortunately. Had the pleasure of facing 28 in groundfighting.

Every company had a different schedule; not all stations were visited by all companies. Some folks got out with not a speck of mud on their NWUs, while mine are caked with it (laundry is going to have a fun time next week).
