The Class of 2013 completed Service Selection this day! Lots of happy, excited "chatter" on the blogs, forums, FB, etc.

Here's what we know so far:
1. 25 or 26 SEAL selects :thumb:
2. 13 EOD :thumb:
3. And ... beer sales are over the top this night in Naptown!

Not many days better than this one for USNA Firsties!

Congrats to all the Midshipmen of the Class of 2013!

25 or 26 SEAL selects...those poor bastards, bahahaha.
26+13 = 39 people who are crazy and picked the hardest jobs possible.

Congrats to them!

As much as we are excited for our future mids and quietly dreading I-Day, we will blink . . .

Do you know how many mids applied for SEALs and EOD?

According to the USNA FB post:
Navy SWO - 250, Navy Submarine - 130, SEAL/EOD - 40, Navy Aviation - 315, Navy Medical/Supply/CEC/Intel - 37, Marine Ground - 180, Marine Aviation - 90. Just over 80% received their first preference! Congrats 2013!

First of all congratulations 2013!!!

The number I found interesting was the Marines still took about 270. That is pretty much their full allotment. With the forces drawdown occuring within the Marine Corps I'm wondering if the USNA Marine Graduate numbers are staying near their full allotment that means the reductions are coming from Marine ROTC and OCS programs?

My guess is that they might see that as premature, knowing there are other means to diminish the numbers if/when that occurs. They've bumped a bunch out for toe-stubs and volunteering from some recent classes without any expectation or requirement of paybacks. Simply set free.

This is the government, man. Spending yours and my money, now considered theirs. At least while it lasts. Rarely planning too far into the future ... until the order comes. And it's not yet come. And as history readily exposes, there is ALWAYS a beach in need of being taken by our Marines. Not to "worry" about peace breaking out in the world, even at Christmas time.

When my great-uncle was in the Air Force in around 1950, they had a huge number of pilots who had to either take non-flying positions or leave the service because of cutbacks. He left the Air Force, but had he stayed, within six months huge numbers were returned to flying in preparation to be deployed to Korea.

Never know when the cutbacks will be reversed...

WP do not disagree with you. Marines at Pendelton are training up hard to be readly to go back to their roots of amphipious assalt. Good sized FEX going on this week and a major month long FEX is planned for February. If the ### hits the fan my Marine hits the beach in an LCAC in the 3rd or 4th wave.

I watch the news comming out of the Middle East very closely now. None of it's good.

RIF hurts all services. None of the news is good out of the Middle East. I have heard that all reductions in Marine Officers are from ROTC and OCS?
