What is the turn around time from USAFA? (How long after you finished your application did USAFA get back to you with an offer?)
Thank You and Happy Holidays!

This question really cannot be answered with any certainty as each one will be different. Some are waiting on nominations, others will have complete packages with nominations but won't hear anything until Feb-Mar. Yet, some will hear almost as soon as they complete their package. Many factors influence the timing of notification from USAFA. Finishing the application is just the beginning. Stalking the Mail person becomes a favorite past time of many applicants, waiting for the BFE:shake:

Reply from USAFA

Hi
I agree that the times will be different for different applicants. For my DS who was a recruited athlete it was 2 1/2 weeks after 100% completed application as he had to wait for the next admission panel to meet. As for his MOC, he interviewed Thursday and had nomination letter in Saturday's mail and posted to USAFA web site by Tuesday. But as a recruited athlete he also had his LOA in hand when he went before the MOC panel. My DS was blessed to be a recruited athlete and have an LOA.
Regards
John

For me, I got my nomination on a Wednesday and then got my appointment the next day from the admissions panel.

As I understand it generally the admissions board meets weekly. As mentioned in other threads the coaches push through their blue chip recruits for early decisions or feedback for needed waivers(e.g. SAT vebal below criteria may need english dept approval.) The board also looks at candidates with completed packets and if they are a sure thing score high overall they will be given a slot pending nomination. If they have a nomination they will be given appointment. After the deadline it is basically like the draft - top prospect gets slot .... matching with demographics and nominations until the slots are filled. Candidates respond with a commitment to lock the spot - If a candidates chooses not to accept, then that slot opens up and they try to fill it with those on a waitlist (a process which usually continue through april)

ALO's can probably chime in with more details this is just my understanding of the process

Most appointment offers go out in the month of March. The exception is if your application is extremely strong and/or you are a recruited athlete.

While those who have already heard back from USAFA can comment about how long it took to hear good news, for the most part, I wouldn't count on the timetables holding for most situations.
Many people with LOAs and Appointments now are either recruited athletes or turned in their packages very early. Since it appears that the board didn't start posting most decisions until the end of October/early November, it's nearly impossible to tell when the package was actually looked at by the board.

Nevertheless, my experience: I finished my package on the 15th or so of October. Last part was the English teacher evaluation. Portal ahowed complete the day after that was submitted. I was notified of my LOA early in November (1 or 2) on the application portal. Physical letter arrived the following Monday. Interestingly enough, it took another week or so for the portal mailbox to tell me that I had been issued a LOA. They backdated it to November 1.

I hope someone can answer this, I received an email from the womens swim coach telling me she is going to blue chip me in, and congradulated me as being part of the team. I have also heard from some other people that have received the same thing and they have never gotten an appointment. Are they just bring me back to the ground or could this really happen. My MOC interview is this Monday and really appreciated the information on dress attire.:yllol:

Dress conservatively. Don't wear a swimsuit:biggrin:

Even as a "blue-chipped" athlete, you still have to receive a nomination AND get the appointment (tho that step might indeed be "easier"). You still have to maintain grades and sports and stay out of trouble, etc. And ALL the paperwork is the same, plus you add in all the scores from your sport, plus coaches reports/evaluations, etc.

Know too: the Division I athlete at USAFA is almost a work-a-holic. With daily practices, super-high-level academics, plus squadron duties, and other "jobs," you will have essentially NO free time. Be prepared!

Coach recruiting

Hi
It is hard to answer this question as I thank each coach has different goals. When my DS was offered a non binding verbal commitment after his Sophomore year. Coach never lost contact to this day with my DS. He offered guidance and invited us for an unofficial visit and football game. He has been up front about wanting my DS but never wavered in his and the academy's requirement to be competitive. I trust the coach and to my knowledge he has never promised anything he was not going to deliver. I know that if my DS had not gotten the MOC nomination, I know the coach would have gotten one from the academy. But this has been a two year relationship and the trust has been earned. My DS stepped up and did what was required, and the coach did 100% of what he promised he would do to get my DS an appointment.
I guess I would ask what relationship have you built with this coach? Did you have a face to face meeting and discuss your goals? Have you been invited to the academy for a tour with the coach? Are you a ranked athlete that would bring something to the academy athletic program? Has the coach seen you compete in your sport? Do you meet all the requirements to get an appointment? IF you meet the demanding requirements for admission and your athletic ability would help the coaches program, she may in fact be recruiting you or looking to see if she offers you the opportunity will you take it before she passes on another athlete.
I would say that communication is the best thing I can suggest. Send the coach an email and ask her what her plans are and that you want to come to the academy. If the coach really wants you, she will not be shy about telling you what to do to make this happen. She is already and has been for over a year working to put together a strong team for the class of 2017. If she wants you to be a part of this team, she already most likely knows this. Communicate Communicate Communicate!
