Triple Qualified?

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering how long it takes to find out if one is triple Q'd?

I am certain that I am physically qualified (maxed four of the CFA events, have three varsity letters, and I am a Jiu Jitsu state champion in my division), and I know I am medically qualified (was DQ'd, but I received my waiver December 3, and as of December 4 my portal says qualified). However, I am not completely positive that I am academically qualified. My class rank is 2/141 (could be 1 by the end of the semester), I have taken honors/university courses, but my SAT score is fairly low, 1810 (math-620, CR-590, writing-600). From what I can see, I am academically qualified, but I am not certain because I have not received a letter stating that I am.

Do I also need a nomination to be triple Q'd? Because, I live in Alaska, our nominations will be announced either right before Christmas or early-mid January. Could it be that I just need to wait a little longer (it has only been a week since I was officially medially qualified)?

Thank you!

Re: Triple Q

Reading your post, it appears that you have done all that you can do at this point in time. I assume you competed for your Senatorial and Congressional nominations. I see from your post that they won't announce their nominations until Xmas time. Technically, the Congressional and Senatorial Offices have until mid January to make their nominations known to USMA ( unless the regs have changed).

Just keep your grades up, stay in shape and don't get lazy during the spring semester.

As far as I can recollect, there is no "Triple Q" notification that goes out to candidates. You just need to keep up with your Candidate Portal.

If you are deemed triple qualified, you should receive a letter that you are triple q'd at some point - and (because there's no rolling admissions) that you will be placed on the NWL (unless you are the principle nom if that's how your congressional rep does things). The letter took at least a few weeks after everything was done - maybe a month? But with both my current cadet and my current applicant, triple q letters were sent. Either way, this is an exercise in extreme patience - especially with the elimination of rolling admissions. Best of luck and happy holidays!

3Q'd

As long as your portal is all green then you're golden. You will receive a letter stating the fact you're 3Q'd but it may not be timely for what ever reason. I imagine at WP admission they have a mountain of application to sift through. You do not need a nom to be 3Q'd, however, it is an advantage to be 3Q'd before your nom interview. It shows you are ready and qualified.

Good luck

Receiving a 3Q'd letter and when is RC dependent.
The easiest and quickest way to find out if you are 3Q'd is to ask your FFR. They can look at your file and see if your status is 'Qualified'.

You will be placed on the NWL if you do not win your MOCs slot. No brainer on who that is for the P-nom slates. Not so much with Competitive slates as they may take a little longer to determine. Most times, all candidates on a Competitive slate have to have completed their file for the slot winner to be determined.

Thank you for all of the replies!

I believe that I just need to wait a little longer for the 3Q'd letter.

Unfortunately, Alaska is one of the few states where there are no nomination interviews (I wish there were, because I handle interviews extremely well). So, being 3Q'd wouldn't exactly help, because our application and a picture are the only things the MOCs get to see. However, from what I've been told, if there is no interview that usually means the state is less competitive, which I guess is good.

Your MOCs will see more than your application and picture.
On the WP admissions page, they can log in to a site for MOCs where they can view your file. They will be able to see your file status - so yes, they will know if you are 3Q'd when they select their slates.

If you really want to know if you are 3Q'd, contact your FFR and ask!

Thank you! I was completely unaware that the MOCs could actually see my whole file, which is good news for me.

It's good news only if they look. They can. They don't have to. (Although if it were me I would look).

It looks like I just needed to wait! Received my 3 Q'd letter today, so I am now 3 Q'd with a nomination!

Another question, do we have to receive a triple qualified letter? I've been triple qualified since Sept. 6 and received an LOE Sept. 11, but I have still not received a triple qualified letter.

What exactly does a RC have to do to process a file as 3Q or is that done at WP?

That process is called 'Qualifying' a file.
Once a candidate's file is complete (excluding Medical and a nomination), that means that it is ready to be 'qualified'. The candidates file will be looked at by 3 sets of eyes. First, their RC will review their file. If everything looks good, then it is forwarded on to a random Admissions Committee member. Once they review it and everything in the file looks good to them, then they forward it on to another RC who does this review process.
Once the file passes these 3 checks, then it can be officially 'Qualified' or "Not Qualified".

Once a candidate's file is Qualified (basically 2Q'd) , and medically qualified (the 3rd Q) and nominated, then a candidate can be offered admission or put on the NWL.

You do not have to receive a 3Q'd letter to be 3Q'd. Past history indicates that not all 3Q'd candidates receive a 3Q'd letter.

Just curious - if you did not receive a 3Q'd letter, how do you know that you are 3Q'd?

Honestly buff81, I do not know for sure, but I do know that I am medically qualified from my portal, and my liaison officer told me I passed the CFA, so that is two qualifications, then I assumed being deemed admissible according to my RC and receiving a LOE meant I was academically qualified.

EagleScout13 -
If your RC says you're Admissible and you have a LOE, you are probably in good shape but your file may or may not have been through the official qualifying check process. Depends on when your file was complete. If your file was complete in Sept, chances are that it has been through the 3 check process.
The easiest way to find out is to ask your FFR. They can look at your file and if your 'file status' says 'Qualified', then your file has been through the 3 step check and you are 3Q'D.
You can ask the RC also.

Do you know about a nom yet?

Different Regions - RCs, FFRs, and MOCs work under the same general rules and laws but there is room for variations in how they do their jobs.

Therefore, it is sometimes difficult to give exact answers to questions that are valid in all situations, Congressional Districts, and Admissions Regions.

For Example

The 3Q letter is not always sent - it depends on your particular RC. In my Congressional District none of the 35 candidates have been given a 3Q letter to date. However, I expect that to change early in the new year.

My son (Class of 2015) was never given any 3Q notification. He did get a LOA in October followed by an official Offer of Admissions a month later.

The vast majority of FFRs are very helpful and knowledgable. However, my son's FFR never provided him any insightful information or helpful encouragement. That is the exception and not the rule. Keep in contact with your FFR - he can tell you, based on an Admissions web site, whether you are officially qualified medically, CFA, and academically. There is no reason why you should be "in the dark" about your status.

Be careful about making conclusions about your status based on wishful thinking or unofficial information. Assume nothing.

triple qualified sounds so redundant, doesn't it?

Anyhow, does a letter stating the "Admissions Committee has qualified your file" constitute a "triple qualification"?
