Hello! My dream school is Kings Point. However, I have been told that my grades will not gain me an acceptance. I wanted to know what my chances of getting into Kings Point were in comparison to other applicants. I am a high school Junior. My current GPA is a 3.4. I am in all honors courses excluding math (I'm currently in Pre-Calc). My practice ACT score was a 24 (I'm taking the legitimate test in January along with the SAT). My practice scores for the SAT have yet to be returned, however, I feel as though I scored around an 1850. I am involved in my church's youth group. I am also a Boy Scout finishing up my Eagle Project. I am currently serving as the SPL, and have previously served as the ASPL, PL, Quartermaster, and Venture Crew Chief. I am a member of the Order of the Arrow, and have attended both leadership courses (NYLT, and NAYLE). As far as sports go, I have lettered in track and field (Javelin) as well as Diving. I am involved in my high school's Outdoor Adventure Club, dodgeball club, and marching band. I am the assistant captain to our bass drums in the drum line. In addition to my chances of getting an acceptance, I also wanted to know what life is like at the USMMA. I have been told it is a place filled with stress and anxiety, but I have also been told it is an awesome place if you take advantage of all the opportunities midshipmen are offered. Any answer would be great! Thanks!

I would recommend that you contact the track and field and swimming coaches if you're interested in participating in either. You can find their contact information on the respective sport pages at www.usmmasports.com.

I know of people that have been accepted with your grades. Some of it is determined by where your from. The big concern would be the math and science. My DS had AP calc and had both HS & College Physics. He did well but said it was challenging. The biggest challenge for most who don't make it seems to be the grades and grade transition. Some just can't handle the math and science required. Others have an issue because in HS they were all A's and at KP they aren't and that affects their mental state.

KP is all about flexibility, the minute you think you know what's going to happen it changes. I'm reminded of what a friend said the other day about his inlaws, "In September my mother in law kept calling and wanted to know the schedule for Christmas. In my family we normally made plans for Christmas around the 23rd". When you go to sea, you know you have a ship when your on it. That's why it been said the unofficial moto is "Semper Gumby" (Always Flexible).

So as long as your flexible and study like heck you can make it!!

PS: Your login of "NavalAviator" doesn't say that KP and the Merchant Marine are the tops of your dream list

Thanks for the Help! And I know about the login name, my ultimate goal is to become a naval aviator. I was told by an alumnus that a good portion of midshipmen will enter active duty Navy, and of those, some do become naval aviators. I prefer Kings Point to Annapolis because of the size (1,000 midshipmen compared to 4,000) and the relativeness closeness to my home (PA).

This might be a slight thread "hi-jack", but this post made me feel so much more comfortable about my DS and his choice of USMMA as his first and only SA choice.
As a family we are the flexible type - making plans for Christmas on the 23rd sounds like us. My DS also has a fairly mediocre GPA but attends a challenging prep school. But SAT Math was over 700. He is making As this year in most subjects, but is surprising me with stellar grades in AP Calculus. He says, "...it's just all coming together now. I get it." WOW! I think he may just be suited for KP after all...

17TexasMom-
700+ Math? :thumb: AP Calc going well? :thumb: Yep, KP sounds like a good fit:smile:. Best of luck to you.
