Today I received in the mail a letter stating that I was qualified academically and physically. What significance does this have? I understand that it is not an appointment, but would like to know if this is a 'mass mail' type of thing, or if it indicates a somewhat high chance for an appointment later on. Thanks for any and all insight.

I wish I had that right now. It means that West Point deemed you qualified in two areas, academics and physically fit. If you are medically qualified, then you are 3Q'd, meaning that as long as you get a nomination, you are put on the NWL guaranteed. This just means that you are on your way for a hopeful appointment.

Any communication is a good note. I just became 3Q'ed this week after months of work starting last September. Of course, the journey for all of us started years ago.

Congratulations and Merry Christmas!

Although Patriotic is correct, a guaranteed slot on the NWL while good, is no big deal. Maybe 100 kids make it off the NWL each year. It's actually more in the nature of a mass mailing to each person who has achieved these qualifications. Nevertheless it is positive in that he wasn't disqualified and can still be admitted pending a nomination, etc.

It is very important to be 3Qd (qualified academically, medically, and physically). If you have a Principle Nominatrion you are VERY likely to get an offer. However, if you have a nomination - but not a Principle nomination - you will be put on the National Waiting List. If you have a Principle you probably have been notified by tyour Congressman or FFR. If you are not sure ask.
The bad news is that eventually several hundred people will be on the National Waiting List but only about 150-200 (this varies every year) will be given an offer. Now it is important to keep you file up to date and report ANYTHING that might improve your Whole Candidate Score (New honors, awards, better SAT scores etc.)

NWL

There were aprox 1100 applicants left on the NWL last year that had a nom, 3Q'd. They later recieved the TWE stating QNS "Qualified Not Selected". With the very high applications being submitted and not many turning down an offer to attend WP, very few will be pulled from the NWL again this year. This is why it has been stated to have a Plan B and C. If you want to really attend WP re apply again. However, attend a prep school or enroll in college.

Happy Holidays!!
