ACT/SAT

To answer your question, a minimum of 600 on SAT. Not sure about ACT, (27?)

However, to be competitive...is another question.

I received a 34 in Math on the ACT. I still think I can do better. Do not shoot for the minimum, always do your best.

Perhaps the better answer here might merit a few preceding questions re: standardized test scores.

1. Do you want to be considered an "average" candidate? Or below average?

2. To which ethnic group do you belong?

3. Have you read this thread? http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=29535

As you'll see the better answer for a sort of "minimum bar" to get over can vary substantially. For example, if you're a caucasian candidate, you'd better be shooting for a 686 or better in math and a 665 verbal, a combined 1351 ...

... just to be deemed "average" among the 20,000 or so candidates applying.

Unless one has some spectacular gift to bring to the party, he/she who shoots for the 600 target may be sunk.

I may not have asked the question properly. yes I do not want to be average. I meant what is the minimum #'s to stand out? I am caucasian.

Check out 2016 class stats and be your own judge.

There's great information re: the collective profile of successful candidates here. But remember 3 things ...

1. These stats are means, modes, medians. They are descriptive more than prescriptive, altho they point the general directions.

2. And as far as SAT/ACT standards go, this report is the mean of collective individuals from groups assessed by different measurs, each with significantly varied standards, and provides little guidance in answering your specific question.

3. The short answer for your specific case relative to SAT/ACTs is not revealed in those stats.

Back when Admissions announced minimums, SAT M min was 650, ACT M min was 26. Verbal was floating around SAT 600, ACT 25 - as I recall. As insinuated above, you are much better off working towards the best scores you can achieve - because there always are some candidates who will be doing just that. Those TWE's are real ego deflaters!
Best wishes in your efforts.

Indeed.

First, the score needed to impress your nomination source enough to make you a Principal Nom is the most relevant score, assuming your MOC does Principal, and that varies from year to year and from MOC to MOC. You see, your question avoids the basic mechanism of the process: There are hundreds of possible battles that ultimately determine the outcome of the war.

If your question relates to the score needed to attain a high spot on the NWL, then you're probably looking at over 730 M and over 650 CR, assuming you are NOT a hooked candidate (athlete or diversity).

Do you mean NWL or national pool? I'm still trying to figure that differential out.
