ACT scores just cell out and I am crushed. I was trying to improve my CGA chances and I ended up doing much worse on the ACT than my SAT in whole.
My question
How does CGA super score?
SAT 1st time
590m
600cr
550w
SAT 2nd time
620m
650cr
540w
ACT December
25 composite
24english reading and science
28m

I'm pretty sure a 28 is better than 620 but everything else is so much worse. I understand how competitive CGA is and I want to know if I will get my best scores from all 3 tests or just best out of SAT alone or ACT alone.
Can anyone tell me what they will see as an overall if they receive all 3 scores or should I cancel the ACT from being sent..
Please help. I don't want this dream to be ruined...

I THINK that your SAT super score would be:
620m
650cr
550w
Most schools take the highest from each individual section. That makes your 'super score'.

They do not super score between tests, that I know of. So your ACT would stand alone, not be combined with the SAT. That is what was explained to us at a few schools. Not sure about CGA. Your math and cr are not bad, so don't over worry. SAT is offered again the end of Jan. and ACT in Feb.
If you wanted another shot, would those dates be time enough?

I think the last date they accept is december because they need the score report by feb 1st and i dont think december scores will be there until mid january because of the 3-8 week report time. :(
I feel like I am college(even academy) ready. I have passed AP Calc with a 4 and AP US hist with a 5 and have a 4.0 at the local community college... is that less pertinent than average/mediocre standardized tests?

Again, hopefully someone with direct experience or knowledge will chime in and help you with this. Based on very basic research, the SAT/ACT are important because they are the same test for all. GPAs can relate more to the rigor of a school or grading scale than true ability. AP test might be a good indicator, but not sure that AP US His. is relevant (our dd was told to focus on SAT scores and varied math and science courses more than any humanities...and of course leadership, sports and service to others with leadership and sports being big).
However, I will again say that I do not think your scores are bad at all...I would think they would be competitive. Have you researched the profile score average for the most recently admitted to USCGA?
As I have told my teens, the academies are competitive. Period. Do your best and also have a plan B. I would encourage the same for you.

I feel the scores are competitive for 2015 or 2016 but I keep reading about how much more competitive it will be this year.
My plan B is NROTC which I have obtained a scholarship through vast amounts of luck. Regardless of how competitive, I can't help but feel helpless in the process. Thank you for all of your answers Stella, I do appreciate the responses.

My memory is a little fuzzy so hopefully Objee or Luigi can chime in on this one but I believe that CGA superscores by converting all scores onto an SAT scale and then pulling the top scores in each area. So, for example, your 28 math ACT score would be converted to an equivalent SAT score and, if that was higher than the 620, they would use it when reviewing your file.

Superscores

I don't think that is accurate. I believe that USCGA uses one set of scores or the other and that they don't convert and superscore across sat and act, but I too will be interested in what objee has to say on this.

T&F is right. Whenever I check my Acadis it converted my ACT score (36) to an 800. We'll need objee to chime in, but I think they take your highest score from both tests (if you took both) and use that score on an SAT scale.

I'll agree with the other two cadets, because as far as I remember, my ACT score was converted to SAT. I never even bothered to take the SAT, but my ACADIS profile reflects an SAT score as well, so I know for a fact there is some conversion ratio used. It is a standard developed by the two companies to convert their tests into each other.

I think what they're questioning is whether or not they'll combine a math score from the SAT and a reading score from the ACT or vice versa. They definitely will turn scores from the ACT into SAT numbers but I don't think they pick and choose individual sections from each test.

This accurately describes how USCGA superscores ACT and SAT results; we combine the highest section scores from multiple exams within a particular test (ACT or SAT), but not between the two. The Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board does have access to your superscore from each exam, so they will see all the results during their review.
