I would like to know if I am qualified, and if so, how do/will I know? I have been 3Q'ed by USMA, as well as received a nom to both SA's. I have tried contacting the RC and my BGO, but both don't communicate very much information, nor were able to tell me about my application status. Do most people receive a letter in the mail, or just an LOA?

Stats for Qualification:
ACT: 29
SAT: 1810 (not good, I'm aware)
Sports: (6 varsity letters, 1 all state lax, 2 all county football, 6x scholar athlete) (2x captain lax, 1 time captain football)
Extracurriculars: Clubs (3 President, 1 Representative), Boys State attendee, NASS attendee, MI Freedom Academy Delegate.
DoDMERB Status: QUALIFIED
CFA: maxed 2 events, upper 80th (at least) percentile for other events.


All help is appreciated! thank you.
 
None can tell you. You look very decent. You recognize your standardized testing scores are substantially below average. What was the breakdown for M/V on ACT, SAT? Are you a recruited athlete? What state? Michigan? District?

As long as you've not received the "no" you remain viable, in the game.

If anyone tells you you're likely to get an appointment, they're fibbing.

And if anyone tells you you're likely to get rejected, they're fibbing.

Sorry, gotta wait. Patience is a learned virtue. Time to learn and practice. ;) Chin up. Eyes pointed same direction.
 
I am from MI-10, not recruited, nor an underrepresented minority. It is a small district, with relatively low numbers of applicants. As far as scores go, I received M: 28 V: 30 for ACT, which are ok. For the SAT, I received M: 600 V: 580, which I recognize as abysmal for my standards. I feared that I would receive the "wait and see" response but I have realized that this is the only thing I can do. Thank you for your help!
 
MI-11 here.

I haven't received any notification from USNA about qualifications.

ACT: 34 Math, 29 English
 
My act scores were very similar and I'm going to NAPS soon. What was your GPA and class rank? That seems to matter a lot
 
my GPA is 3.84 U and my rank is 12%ile. They don't release numbers at my school.
 
HI all, im from MI-02

prthaler, did you say you got a nomination from both senators? I received one from my local rep. A senator turned me down because I had already received a nomination. This really aggravated me because on a CVW to the academy, they said apply for all nomination sources with hopes to get more than one.

MI-11 here.

I received a local rep and Senator Stabenow's nomination to West Point.

Senator Levin turned me down for West Point because I already had a nomination via Stabenow.

Don't worry about it. All you need is one nomination to be competitive. The senators/congressman do this so they can ensure more people have their file complete, thus trying to reduce the number of people who are triple qualified but no nomination.

I BELIEVE this. It is consistent with every message of counsel we've ever heard about seeking nomination.

I WONDER ABOUT THIS.

With all due respect, I confess to being extremely dubious of this 2nd contention. I'm not suggesting it is a lie or the contender is a liar. I am suggesting it might be an illustration of hearing one thing and naively, innocently contributing our own assumption in completing the point(s).:confused:

Sadly, I do this same thing ... chronically as she will confirm ... with my wife's communiques.:redface:

For the record, I suspect the statement was indeed something like, "Go for every available nomination you can receive."

I've always heard re: nominations, one is necessary ... and one is sufficient.

Now, perhaps 08, 64, 85 can correct my ... assumption and understanding. Would Academy officials benefit from any candidate(s) multiple nominations and thus do they now counsel candidates to get as many as possible? This would be a new bit of info. For the sake of clarity and truth, I welcome being corrected.
 
USNA strongly recommends you apply for and attempt to obtain as many noms as you can. The reason is that, by law, USNA must "slot" (i.e., assign) you to an official nominating source. The more noms you have, the more options USNA has to find a place for you and thus, at some level, the better your odds of obtaining an appointment.

The above said, USNA recognizes that, in many competitive geographic areas, MOCs "get together" and parcel out their noms such that no one candidate receives more than one MOC nom to any SA and some where, if you have a Pres nom, the MOCs won't consider you for an MOC nom. In such situations, having only one nom is not a negative.

To add to the above, I live in a competitive area where, generally, you can only get one MOC nom but occasionally folks will get more than one. The overwhelming majority of successful candidates have only one nom.

I've had a few candidates from less- or non-competive areas (due to divorced or geographically separate parents) who have received multiple noms and still been turned down for an appointment.

The bottom line is that a candidate in a lesser competitive area should not compare him/herself to a candidate in a supercomptetive area -- mixing apples and oranges.
