CVW Parents' Schedule?

Hoping that someone can point me to an old thread or give me other insights here. DD will be attending the first Spring CVW, and is hoping that I accompany her, which makes me smile

Having never been to USNA, I am planning to go for some or all of whatever parent-oriented program will happen. The invitation said that parents are "welcome to attend the opening remarks on Thursday and the parent focused events on Friday," but that was the only detail DD received on the topic.

Can anyone clue me in about the parents' schedule and content?

Thanks!

Found my copy from Oct 25-27

Wow, I need to clean out my travel bag, but I found my copy of both the Candidate's Schedule and the Parent's Schedule when we visited Oct 25-27, 2012.

If you PM me with your email I would be happy to scan and email them to you.

I looked at the linked provided by Patriotic and the schedule looks very similar to the schedule my DS and I experienced when we attended the CVW in October, 2012. The schedule was quite full of informative seminars and pretty much took up both days.

DS did not get into NASS, so this was a great experience for him, and he loved the entire time he was there. I also enjoyed the seminars I attended.

I hope you and your DS gain as much from the time spent on the "yard" as much as both of us did.

Good luck!

Keep in mind that the CVWs aren't really targeted at parents.
My most recent information on this stuff would be last year...back then many of the candidates did not have their parents with them and there didn't seem to be a lot for them to do. Maybe that's changed.

Sidenote: What part of Mass. are you from?

I intend on joining my son during his CVW. I understand I most likely wont have much to do. Do you guys suggest any specific hotel for the CVW?

We usually stay at the Sheraton and have stayed at O'Callaghans as well. Spend as much time as you can touring the Yard. There is a guided tour that leaves from the Visitor Center. After being out there over 6 times since I-Day, I could still spend hours in the museum, chapel, visitor Center, watching noon formation, etc. I never tire of it even though DS says that he feels like he is in a fish bowl when the visitors gawk at them. Ha! I can't remember if you are given a pass to go to the Mid Store, but everytime we are there I have to bring home a boat load of stuff from there! You will need to stock up on Navy apparel and anything with a Goat on it :thumb:

My son and I attended last spring. The first evening is mostly admin, a few q&a's, pass out agendas, watch a motivational video etc. Next day is mostly q&a forums with different panels, one with mids, one with professors, one with admissions and one with parents club. Your daughter will join you part way thru and you will tour the STEM bldg with a Mid. Quite an impressive tour for an Engineer such as my self, wind tunnels, wave pools, satellite lab etc. Once the tour is over, your daughter goes back with her guide and you're on your own until you pick her up the next day. The program for parents lasts until about 1pm.

Loews

I like Loews, close enough to walk to the yard, decent workout room located in an area where you can walk to eat or drink. I have also stayed at the Westin, O Callahan, and State House Inn. When we visit Annapolis almost always stay downtown as we enjoy parking the car and being able to walk downtown, to USNA etc, very walker friendly place.

By the way my son did CVW four years ago and although I went to Annapolis with him I did not do the parents schedule. Knew enough about USNA that I didn't feel the need but I did tour the Yard, the Museum, the cemetery etc and attended a sporting event at the academy.

Good Luck:thumb:

We attended a CVW with our now-2nd Class son in March of his senior year in HS. He had received his appointment in late January, but due an unfortunate injury, was unable to attend NASS the prior summer, so this would be his first visit to the Yard.

Our family had no prior experience with the military, excepting now-passed grandfathers who had served in WWII. It was very important to us, as parents, to get some idea of what are son was getting into. We insisted that he attend to have some exposure to USNA before accepting his appointment. He did his thing and we did ours. We all came away reassured that it was the right place for him.

Good Choice

That will work well for you, about a half a block or so further from the Academy than the Loews, but both are fine locations. Both hotels I believe offer the little shuttle vehicles, although I prefer to walk and if you like to walk it is a great town to do so. Good luck to you and your son, we are also from NJ and the time has gone by fast as we are now in the home stretch and planning for commissioning week.

Wife and I are trying Best Western, for the Jan 31 CVW. I am not hard to spot at CVW, 6'4'' and answer to name "Savage". Hope to see everbody there.
