Just received word that I have a nomination to go with my LOA. What happens next? Do I get the BFE?

I had a LOA for my CFA and after the scores were sent in it took a couple days for my status to change to Principal and then about five days after that I received my BFE. I think it should be the same for you and would just call the academy in a day or two to make sure they received your nomination. Congrats. Cant wait to start everything up.

And I could have killed the mail lady for folding the BFE and bending the folder 
in the mailbox as it put a big crease on it. But when DS gt home and opened it really got interesting. One letter said welcome you have been selected or accepted ( or whatever the wording) and blah, blah, the second was a sheet of paper ( without ) his name but information on the class of 2011 of NMMI? Huh? What did Thais mean? DS was to class of 15 for KP. Did it mean direct admit to NMMI and class of 11 was freshman year? He didn't get in? He did get in?
A very quiet dinner. He kept saying " it's fine, I will call tomorrow, it's fine"....
The KP office had no idea how the other info got in the envelope, lol. So , they sent a new folder! Perfect and mail carrier didn't fold this one!
After the rigors of the KP workload took hold he would have been thrilled to get a prep year at NMMI!

You will receive lots of forms to complete prior to Indoc. Things like a fingerprint sheet and a form to attest that you've had your wisdom teeth removed or that they do not need to be removed. (The wisdom teeth part is the subject of several threads here. If you haven't had your wisdom teeth removed already, you really should see your dentist about having it done. DS did not have his wisdom teeth removed prior to KP - our dentist said they didn't need to come out - but KP wouldn't clear him for Sea Year until they came out. He spent a Friday afternoon at a dentist's office in Great Neck getting them removed.) You'll also need to obtain a Transportation Workers' Identification Card (TWIC), which can be a difficult process if you're not near a port with a TWIC office.

....and congrats to ALL of the new 2017 appointees.
So what do you do now? Well... keep your grades up... STAY IN SHAPE (ie. work out), enjoy the remainder of your senior year, and get ready for an incredible journey! Also, make plans to attend the Open House for New Appointees (Admissions Open House) in the spring (at USMMA). It is scheduled for MONDAY 15 APRIL. I recommend everyone in the incoming class of 2017 try to attend the Admissioins Open House.!! You will learn very valuable things that you just wouldn't find out otherwise; we sat in on a very very valuable "talks", took a tour of the campus (barracks), talked to current midshipmen, met other incoming parents, and seriously learned very valuable info. It is NOT mandatory, but I strongly recommend it. We flew out and spent one night in NY, went to the open house and took the last flight home. You will receive info from the school on this via the mail eventually, but should you want to get better prices for air fair/ hotel by booking early, then it's wise to think ahead and make arrangements sooner than later. If anyone needs recommendations for taxi/ rental cars/ hotel then please feel free to PM me. ALSO- School for you (INDOC) will begin in early July. You will receive info gradually. There will also be a Welcome Aboard Pincic prior to INDOC and I highly recommend everyone attends (including parents, siblings). Your local Parents Assoc. will eventually contact you- and if by chance there is not a Parents Assoc in your state, you can be "Adopted" by another Parents Assoc as well. (joining is not mandatory, but highly beneficial and recommended). In the future, there will also be a student face book group that will begin for JUST STUDENTS IN YOUR CLASS. I highly recommend joining it and meeting your future classmates. There will ALSO eventually be a 2017 PARENT face book group as well. Have your parents join that- even if they do NOT do face book now... they need to join this as it's their umblicle courd to the academy and to info on their child! I am sure once those groups form, then someone will post the links on the Forum.

Unless they change something this year, which I highly doubt, you will need the TWIC before Indoc. You'll also need a passport if you don't have one. I believe they will also send you an immunization card that you'll have to take to your doctor's office to have them verify your shot record.

If you google : USMMA Logging In Class of 2015 you will find everything you can think of. This booklet will come to you, the updated version, in March I believe.
But if you want to read ahead you will get an idea of what y will be doing for the next couple months.
The vaccination information Is there for the class of 15. Again things change but I found a previous classes version and it gave me something to do and also gave me more specific questions.

I'm going to add in my (mom of a 2015 DS) two-cents worth on the "wisdom teeth" issue. Prior to Indoc, DS dentist did a full work-up. Told us there was no medical reason to remove ANY of his teeth. Dentist signed DSs paperwork stating that he could not medically justify removing the wisdom teeth. Once at KP, DS was told by KP dentist that he had to have all four removed or she would not clear him for sea the following year. Scheduled appt with oral surgeon at home (over winter break) took one look at DS mouth and x-rays and said he couldn't find any medical reason to remove them either. Took info back to KP dentist who then changed her mind and said that DS didn't need to have them removed in order to be cleared. Fast forward to June...DS was called into KP dentist office and was told that she wasn't going to clear him after all!!!! He was supposed to be B split - had his ship assignment and partner - was three weeks from boarding the ship! DS stayed at KP to have the teeth extracted so the KP dentist could monitor his progress and clear him asap (or so she said)...after tons of red-tape and BS, local oral specialist also said he didn't see any medical reason for the removal of all four...however, he could justify one. Made the KP dentist happy, had the ONE tooth pulled right away (not even impacted)...he took Advil for 24 hours and antibiotics for three days... FOUR WEEKS later, she told him she wouldn't clear him until the space where the tooth had been was completely closed and 100% healed up. In the end, DS missed his ship three times, was forced by KP administration to go A-split and the dentist didn't end up even seeing him again - he just got an email saying he was cleared for sea!! Long story - short... it's only January, if you're certain KP is for you...and you still have your wisdom teeth...find a dentist who will remove them and get it done before Indoc.

Wisconsinomma, I think you have singlehandedly ended the wisdom teeth debate! I am sure there is a wisdom teeth thread please add on as you will undoubtedly be called to do so again and again!
Now someone with a bad TWIC card story needs to chime in and assure the newcomers that , yes, even if it is out of state and it requries two trips, get the darn thing before, that is if they even will require it again this year. ,

Every year there has been a wisdom teeth thread. I'm with Wisconsinmomma, get the darned things removed even if they really don't need to be removed.
Just remember that lots of health issues can occur during sea year aside from wisdom teeth problems. DS needed to see an eye doctor in Honduras due to an eye injury. Doctor spoke no English, and DS found that his five years of high school Spanish really came in handy.
