What exactly does being FQ (fully qualified offer of appointment?) mean?

Sorry for being such a pest on the forums lately. I hope you guys and gals don't mind.

It means it's the REAL DEAL! Congratulations! Now that you have it, you have a big decision to make. Best wishes!

"FQ" in the USNA system means you have been offered an appointment -- although you may still be waiting to receive the BFE.

Please note, FQ is not the same as "triple qualified." A "fully qualified offer of appointment" (designated "FQ" in the USNA admissions system) is a term of art that signals you are triple qualified, have a nom, AND that USNA has offered you an appointment.

As a reminder, you can be triple qualified without a nom or triple qualified with one or more noms but, unless you have an LOA or are a principal nominee, USNA may or may not offer you an appointment.

Does this appear in CIS? How / where do you see the "FQ" designation?

I have the same question! I feel like my portal is broken or lackluster compared to some others. I have absolutely no information for anything other than the basics of nomination, personal data, interview, and test scores.:unhappy:

Just fyi ... my DS received an LOA and has already sent back his acceptance paperwork for his appointment (received in November) ... CIS shows nothing about any of it. DodMerb still just says "qualified," and the most recent update to CIS was his nomination info. I don't think any of us will ever truly understand how or why admissions works the way it does!!

prthaler and suddensam,
My DS had the same feeling as you. His CIS currently shows only the basics (SAT scores, and status of required application info), and the DoDMERB site only showed qualification info.
But he is FQ (had principle nom) with BFE in hand.

So do not get discouraged.

For everyone who is worried: The OP posted in another message stating that he was "notified" that he was FQ'd. Unfortunately for us USNA candidates, we cannot view the status of our application like USAFA candidates can. I am assuming that his BGO saw the change of status from his side and notified the candidate of it before he actually received the BFE.

Or perhaps (and maybe more likely) got a cryptic letter from his nominating MOC.

Quick questions B+G officers.

Yes, I was a principal nominee. I thought that I would be notified before my B+G officer though. My Congressman that gave me a principal was in for 6-weeks and yesterday, Honorable Bentivolio took the seat. I assumed that I wasn't notified from my Congressman about my appointment because of the hectic district of Michigan 11.

So to the question, is it normal for a status to change to FQ without knowing that I got my appointment in hand yet?

First, a huge CONGRATULATIONS! :thumb:

I am not a BGO (nor do I play one on TV), but I am half expecting that one of the awesome moderators and BGOs here will reply to your question by giving you a lot of amusing anecdotes regarding why the word "normal" doesn't apply.

DD and I are looking forward to seeing you at the Jan/Feb CVW

Hopefully I'll get to see you guys as well! When you notice an asian guy with a Navy hoodie, you'll know it's me.

This might sound like a stupid question, but where exactly do you find this in the USNA system?
Thanks!

Well, if you want an honest answer, it only sounds like a stupid question because most of the original replies asked exactly the same thing, and they were all answered.

If by "USNA system" you mean CIS, it isn't there. From what I've read from others in response to my question, someone with a more comprehensive view or more fully in the know (e.g., admissions, your nominating member of Congress) would have to tell you.

Good luck.

The BGO system uses FQ, which means that the candidate has received an appointment letter. BGOs get this info AFTER the candidate has received the BFE, so it's not as if we know something you don't.

I don't know if FQ is used outside of the BGO system, b/c that's the only system to which I have access.

I have never seen a FQ change in the BGO system, although I suppose it could if something happens (medical, conduct) after the appointment is tendered.

So is it possible for a candidate's BGO to know that a candidate is 3Q'd before the candidate himself finds out?

Hey Alex, Saul here. :p

Yes, I found out from my BGO that I received my FQ appointment before it actually came. The BFE was issue on January 3rd, and I was notified of my status change by my BGO on that day. Then my BFE came in the mail on January 7th and I was like... but then was like :thumb:

I assume my old Congressman never told me because January 3rd was induction for the new Congressman.

Oh hey lol,

Ok gotcha, I was just wondering if I should ask my bgo if he knows anything. But I'm going to the january cvw so if I found out I'm rejected already, then I wouldn't want to go. So I dont know what I'm gonna do, this whole waiting things getting to me haha. Yeah I have a new congressmen too so they wouldn't have told me.

I only received my BFE early because I was the principal nominee. That's the only reason why.

I'm confident that if you had already been rejected.... you would already know. You're in the running until they tell you otherwise. Also, they don't grant CVWs to just anybody. Go do the CVW. And if, perchance, you do not get an appointment, the CVW should help you decide if you want to re-apply... or even accept an appointment should you receive one.
