Which authority notifies a candidate of an appointment, because in the letter from my Congressman, its say they notify me if I am appointed, but I originally thought it was throught the online status page. Any calrification would be helpful?

You will receive a BFE (Big Fat Envelope) in the mail!

When you receive an appointment, you will receive a BFE from the Air Force Academy saying that the appointment paperwork is encloses. It was one of the most exciting days of my son's life, when that envelope arrived in the mail. It will be a day our entire family will remember forever!

I think they usually give the MOC 7 days to notify you and then they update the status page. This is done as a courtesy to the MOC. The MOC may or may not notify you.

There are 3 ways to be notified.

1. Some Congressmen and Senators (MOCs are given 7 days prior notification) contact Appointees while some do not.

2. The BFE in the mailbox (I still remember my son's reaction!)

3. A change in your Application Portal to "Appointment Offered".

In 2011, it was the MOC calls, BFE, and then portal update. In 2013, it could be in a different order.

Remember too; your MOC is not the only SLATE/Nomination that people can get. I.e. If you received an appointment, and it was using the nomination from a Presidential, then chances are that your MOC may or may not even know about it. When my son received his appointment, it was in the end of October - Beginning of November. He didn't have any other nominations yet. (The MOC's hadn't even interviewed yet). He got his appointment with a Presidential nomination. The way we knew he got an appointment, was because the online status changed to: "APPOINTMENT OFFERED". Only the ALO would know, and that's if they kept an eye on the online status. So only my son and us knew.

A couple days later, the Big-Fat-Envelope showed up in the mail. We actually told my son's ALO that he received an appointment. We then even called both senators and our representative to say "Thank you", but that my son didn't need to interview for a MOC nomination, because he already received the appointment.

So as you can see; who notifies you generally depends on WHO'S slate you received the appointment from. However; the individual may know before anyone based on the status page of the online application or by receiving the BFE. Mike.....

Last year we didn't hear from senator, didn't get BFE yet, but saw on portal 'appointment offered'. We told ALO. It was an exciting day for sure! You just never know but those days prior were very apprehensive. I still know DS's SSN from logging in so many times!

I just found out about my appointment. I found out when I checked my portal. It says "Appointment Status: Appointment Offered". No BFE yet and no word from my MOC

afag2017 - out of curiosity, were you a principal nominee or an LOA recipient?

H2Opolodude - No. I didn't receive a principal or LOA. The only difference that I can think of between myself and most of the applicants is I am not a high school student. Right now I'm in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M
