My southern girl will be chillin with tomorrow's high of -3 with 20 MPH wind.

Winter is here!

Ah, my southern boy sure will be chillin up on there on the hill this week. Especially during his pre dawn Ranger ruck runs. :thumb:

My younger son will be attending Winter Mountain Warfare School at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in VT starting the first week in Feb.

After 14 days in the field I imagine he will have a full understanding of what it's like to be a Snowman.

Thank goodness for him he'll be coming from a school that currently has snow and cold.....just not that cold.

You Norwich men and women have my greatest respect when it comes to weather.

10 miles through the Vermont Mountains with 90 pounds on your back at 40 below at 4:35 AM. It builds character and determination. Makes things easier in the future!

Go Norwich & Go Norwich Ranger Team!

Global warming may be inexorable, just not quick enough to help your son. Bring mittens.

Honestly they do not go out when it is really really cold. Plenty of indoor facilities at Norwich.

It is also not so easy in the South in the warm months. Ruck march through 100+ temperatures. Droning, trying to take in as much water as possible. Praying the Cadre will turn left and take the shady trail. When they turn right you are praying that you dont pass out.

To each their own.

cold weather test run

My son went out this weekend and ran because it was in the teens. The coldest it been here in a long time (Eastern Shore, Maryland). Just because he wanted to get a feel for what it is going to be like.

Sweet jesus no. I'm a southerner, born and bred, and as a graduate of The Citadel I think the coldest temperature I was exposed to on campus was in the high 20's or low 30's.

On the flip side the southern heat is pretty brutal on cadets from up north. They just don't know what to do with it. My relatives from upstate New York think that 80F is hot and 40% humidity is "muggy." They couldn't really function when they visited Charleston for my wedding.

I mean my first week (Hell Week / Indoctrination Week) was in the high 90% in humidity and cracked over 100F every single day. What's black flag weather again?

I think that much cold would have broken me. I was in D.C. during that huge snowstorm a few years ago and was pure miserable for the several days I was stuck there.

Best of luck to the poor frozen cadets.

same reason I went to The Citadel instead of VMI; warm weather and sunshine guy from the south

post graduate posting

Isn't there military rule saying Citadel grads post to Alaska and Norwich grads post to Alabama?
