If you are interested in the Coast Guard Academy and you will be in the greater Chicago-area this coming weekend, please consider attending the "Strictly Sail Chicago Show" at Navy Pier, Thursday January 24 through Sunday January 27. There will be Academy Admissions Partners and parents of current cadets at the USCGA booth #596 (we are in "college sailing club row"). We will have brochures and several feature items highlighting the new Leadership 44's Coastal Sailing Program boats. In another part of the same show, there will be a 25 foot Defender-class USCG response boat and Coast Guard Aux. on hand with boating safety tips. This will be our 3rd year at the show -- the largest in-door sailing show in the county -- stop by!

Any questions, email me at: Bruce R Talbot at aol dot com

On the first day of the show I spoke to a couple who flew in from New Zealand to attend the show (wow). I was shocked to learn from them that New Zealand does NOT have a Coast Guard! Some of the things we take for granted.

LITS, I believe this picture is from last year----and he still has his hands in his pockets.

How was the function handled in NZ? Fed gov or local?

The couple I spoke to said the local citizens have a volunteer search & rescue team as they do not have a government Coast Guard. I was very surprised.
