Air Force ROTC enrollment questions

I'm very interested in joining Air Force ROTC. Here are the particulars, I'm a current enlisted SSgt (USAF), 26 years old, with a seperation date of 15 Oct, I'm eligible to start terminal leave in August in time for fall semester. I'm going to ask my squadron leadership/First Sergeant for PTDY and CTO days to allow me a few weeks before fall semester starts so I can refocus my self into study/school mode.

I've spoken briefly the the recruiting officer and was told my first year course would be waived. So I would start as a sophmore with AS200.

I'm a PTL currently and PT test are a non-issue for me currently. However GPA slightly worries me as I am applying to Embry-Riddle with a cross-town agreement with the Det. I've been told by Embry-Riddle that as a transfer with a CCAF student I will not have a GPA since I will be a transfer student. Will need to keep copies of my transcripts from all my schools to submit to Air Force ROTC upon enrolling or will they be able to get my transcripts from all my schools through Embry-Riddle? I have more than my fair share of C's and want to try to bring it up before the fall semester.

Hi, sir. I'm a crosstown cadet and can fill you in on some things.

Keep all your transcripts. The AF will count the actual grades you received in your CCAF classes, despite the fact that ERAU (or it's crosstown affiliate) won't. So you'll have two GPAs: Your "fresh start" ERAU one, and your AFROTC one that counts every class you've taken. That's how it goes for most, if not all, crosstown agreements.

We've had a few prior enlisted cadets join the program, all of em E4s. They all do really, really well in the program. I come from an entirely civilian background so I'm always bugging them for help with things, hah.

Out of curiosity; is this the ERAU in Prescott or Daytona Beach?

There's a school in that will not give me my transcript and my records are blocked until an agreement is reached. Because I feel I am not at fault with the debt owed and it's rather large I cannot gain access to those transcripts. Can ROTC get those transcripts for me? I've since taken classes to replace those grades since I cannot again access to them. I'm with ERAU Worldwide, at the Moody Campus.

That is highly highly doubtful. Transcripts are like your medical records, they are private, the only way that a person other than the student can obtain them is if the student gives permission to access the records. The problem is the college has placed a lock on your account, they aren't allowing you access, thus the chances they would allow ROTC access is slim to none because they know there is no benefit to them from a financial angle to give it

They have the upper hand and know it by holding onto the transcripts.

I know for our DS when he commissioned last May, he had to call for his transcripts, even though he attended AFROTC at the same school for 4 yrs and the det was on campus, they could not gain access, our DS did.

Off topic, but do yourself a favor and talk to your 1st shirt about this to see if they can offer advice. Is this a TA discrepancy? If so, maybe they can help you navigate the system.

I would also check your credit rating report if you have not already. This debt can become a big credit problem if they decide to report it to the credit agencies like Equifax, transperion, etc. It could stay on for yrs., as you know to get a TS clearance they will do a background check including your credit and you will have to explain this in full if it is seen as a default.

I would bet this issue will also come up as part of TAP because they like to sit down and do financial advising as part of the program. They may be also able to assist you in how to rectify the situation.

I've contacted the school today and I explained to them my situation, and after a lot of prodding and me sending PCS orders I think I finally struck gold. They will allow me my transcripts if I pay the loan off for $170. That's way better than the orignal figure.

If I understand you correctly Pima the AFROTC Det's cannot pull transcripts from the schools? I was under the impression they could get all your grades... Not to sound cheap but I could use the $170 on something else right now...

Also will my age be an issue? When I start fall semester I will be 26, I'll turn 27 in Oct and finish Sophomore year at 27. Sophomore -->Junior=28, Junior-->Senior/Graduation 29. Embry-Riddle senior class graduates the first Saturday in May, now no issues withstanding I'll fall below the 30yr old limit. I'm currently a Technical degree (Aeronautics) student without a scholarship. As of right now my GPA is (2.42) Embarrassing, I know but I do work 16+ hr days as an NCOIC.

As far as it went for my DS he had to request it from the school, ROTC did not request it. I also know when I got my Masters I had to get the transcript also, the grad school did not request it.

Maybe they will allow them, but again until you pay that 170 your account is probably considered "locked", nobody will gain access. For a lack of better terms they are holding your transcript hostage. They know you need it and if they let anyone have it, they lose their leverage for you to pay the debt
