Sometimes the advances in medicine are just beyond belief. This is amazing. God bless all of those Doctors who have worked what are nothing short of miracles in my opinion- and thanks to all of those like Mr Marrocco who have sacrificed so much over the last 11+ years of war.

A former soldier who became a quadruple amputee after an explosion in Iraq three years ago has undergone a rare double arm transplant at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, the hospital said Monday.

Brendan Marrocco, 26, of Staten Island, who underwent the marathon surgery last month, was the first service member from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive the loss of four limbs, officials have said....

...Marrocco is the first service member to receive a double arm transplant, and the hospital said he is one of only seven people in the United States who have undergone successful double arm transplants.

I was watching Nightline a few weeks back and saw a story about a woman who had the same procedure. It was an interesting story in that there is a lot of adjustment to having someone else's hands attached to your body.

I found a link with part of the video. Interesting viewing...

The very same doctor worked all day today to reattach the right arm of a MD firefighter.

LT Ryan Emmons was working a vehicle accident this morning on the Capital Beltway near Rt 50 when his fire engine was struck by a tractor trailer. He was taken to Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore and after the successful surgery he was still listed in critical condition.

This is so amazing. I thought it was just wonderful when I heard it on the news. So good to hear.
