Is AROTC similar to NROTC where the scholarship recipient can request a transfer of the award to a different school? Specifically, if the scholarship is awarded to a school and the recipient doesn't get in, does the Army allow a switch? My in-state school is very competitive (my admission decision has been "postponed"), whereas all of my OOS have already accepted me.

It's possible. It's not guaranteed. It's not necessarily easy, especially transferring from an in-state to an out-of-state. But it's possible.

If you've been deferred then you are probably on the cusp and have a chance of making it. Don't know if it will help but you might call the unit at your in-state and let them know. Perhaps if you receive a scholarship they can go to bat for you with admissions. Supposedly some units have pull and others don't. But it never hurts to try that route either.

Make sure that Admissions knows that you have the Scholarship.

#1-Winning the scholarship is yet another achievement for them to consider in your total package. That is no small achievement these days.

#2-It is worth something to them to have one less discussion about financial aid, loans, costs etc.

Best of luck.

Almost forgot...

DS#1 transferred scholarship from OOS GA Tech to Cheaper Big 10 OOS.

And call the admissions department today!
