Hello all!

My NROTC portal finally changed today! I had been getting the two line message about my application being received and that I will be informed of a decision after my file has been reviewed. Today, I got this! Could something be coming my way, good or bad? Or is it just an update?

My DS' page has looked like that for a few weeks. I honestly don't think it means anything.

These types of page changes usually indicate some work is being done on the database. Updates, awards, etc.

Probably shouldn't read too much into it, but who knows...

Yes, DS's page has looked like that for far too many weeks now. We were pretty excited when we saw it change originally, now just stressed and hoping we find out soon.

USCGA wait list from EA1, USNA nomination & DoDMERB qualified but still waiting to hear on an appointment, and still waiting to hear on NROTC. DS has been wanting to serve since elementary school, has been working towards this his entire junior high / high school career, and the waiting to hear is eating at him (probably eating at mom & dad even more). He says he'll be "in uniform" one way or another but he would really like to know where and how that will be taking place 6 months from now.

I posted this last week in response to similar question.

The progression went something like this:

Early to mid Nov-DS had everything submitted. Within a day or two, the recruitment contact had DS correct a couple of things, like getting originals vs. facsimiles, including in-state school in top three, etc.

Late Nov The "chief" confirmed that the app was complete and the status page changed to the simple two line statement about the App being complete.

Mid Dec-The status page changed to the one page snapshot you referred to. I never inquired why the change. Throughout the process I gave DS reasons to call the "chief", checking dates of the board, making sure they got the transcripts from local university, etc.

Friday-Status page changed, announcing scholarship to first choice (out of state Big 10). DS also received email. Both said that official docs would arrive in the next week or two. I was thinking that some decisions were contingent on 1st semester grades not falling off the Senioritis cliff.

Bottomline, DS's status page changed like your DS's, so it is not a negative indicator.

Best of luck. Stay positive.

Off topic, but IMPO, some of your DS's school choices are reaches with his SAT scores. I.E. Notre Dame, Mich, and UIC. Those are all considered very selective. DS had a 1390/33 or 34 ACT, not superscored and the one school he got wait listed from was Notre Dame. I don't know what your DS's other things are, like ECs, cgpa, class rank, legacy, etc. so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

The problem is you can get the scholarship, but not admitted, which will than mean you have to wait until April/May sometime to see if you can switch the scholarship. The problem is you probably won't know if it is switched until the deposits needs to be made.

It is very common every yr.for kids to ask for a scholarship to be transferred after being awarded the scholarship.

Thank you all. As for the school selection, I have already been admitted to my #1 choice, U of Illinois. Although I was rejected at Notre Dame, still waiting on others. If I get the scholarship for one of my other schools, I will most likely do the Army option if awarded that one. I am pretty set on U of I, so whatever branch allows me to serve there is my choice.

ZackL --

Good Luck - My DD is a current freshman at UofI and seems to enjoy her NROTC group.

Regarding the notification dates, her scholarship online status changed on APRIL 29, when she was notified that she had been awarded a scholarship. (That's where my forum name comes from!) We had been waiting since December.

You may still have plenty of waiting time. Try to have alternate plans in place. In our case, we had deposits made at 2 different schools (because of the May 1 deadline for admission acceptance) and were able to have one of the deposits refunded after being notified of the scholarship.

DS's portal also changed last night as described above by ZackL. DS had recently submitted mid year grades so we thought maybe that was the reason. Did anyone also recently submit documents???

I have not submitted anything since about December 5th. That was when my package was completed and mailed. I have not been asked for any mid-year grades either.

I was notified of my scholarship on December 7th for NROTC to U of I. It took approximately 4 weeks to post the final results of my application. Then again, every case is different. Good luck to you. Maybe we will end up in the same unit.

This is all most likely a mere software glitch. I wouldn't waste time speculating about it. This is like trying to read tea leaves or sheep entrails... and I don't think any of you would endorse that.

DS finally got all required items in by the 1/31 deadline yesterday. Does anyone know when the next NROTC board is?

Pima is correct. The rumor is they meet every month through March but specific dates are even more secret. Evidently this is one of the most important secrets to be kept for our national security. But then again, it does avoid the multiple page threads that AROTC has where everyone frets about when the results of the board will be coming out and just how much longer they will have to wait.

When you say you got everything in by the deadline I assume that includes the interview? I also assume if it's Marine Option that the PFT was completed? BTW - the once a month is for Navy Option. If he applied for Marine Option there is only one more board and it's in March.

In any case, good luck to you and your DS. NROTC rocks!!! :thumb:

My DS's app into NROTC was all very last minute. He has been down the USMA and AROTC path the past year as his main interest, but when his MOC surprisingly also gave him a nomination to the Naval Academy, he sat back and thought about it and realized he could fulfill his officer goals via the Navy as well. So in went an application to USNA and NROTC recently. He was able to leverage his recently conducted BGO interview from USNA as his officer interview. The local recruiter handling his NROTC file was very helpful in getting his required application deliverables in by the deadline. It's very exciting. DS just received a AROTC scholarship today, and he feels pretty confident about seeing a possible appointment from West Point. My wife and I all along have simply told him that all we want for him is choice, rather than always wondering what-if if he hadn't applied to all his available options.

Throughout it all, I have come to very much appreciate this forum as an integral piece of information to help my DS navigate through this challenging process. Thank you to all for your insight and wisdom. :thumb:

Congratulations to your son. I'm sure he has a bright future ahead of him whichever path he travels. I couldn't get my kid to apply to USNA or anything else other than NROTC Marine option. He didn't get a high school scholarship but stuck to the path he desired and has come out on top so far. It all goes to prove parents know nothing! Best of luck to your son.

Hats off to your son for knowing what he wants and sticking to it. I'm sure that attitude will lead to a bright future as well! And no, according to my DS, we parents don't know anything.

I guess my question about the status change is has anyone seen this change on their status and then not gotten the scholarship?
