More Navy cits

Sorry... that should have been cuts... not cits... what the hell is a cit?

Under the plan, the deployment of the USS Harry S. Truman -- which was scheduled to leave Friday from Norfolk, Va. -- has been cancelled.
...
There have been two aircraft carrier groups in the Gulf for most of the last two years. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was in the Gulf but was brought home in December for maintenance. It will return later this month, at which point the USS John C. Stennis -- currently the only carrier in the Gulf -- will leave the region and return home.

I'm scratching my head at this one. I can't figure out why HST CSG's deployment is postponed, yet we are quick to keep IKE CSG on track to head back to the Gulf (in just a matter of a few weeks) after a previous 6-month deployment and 3 month "break." I would think it would make more sense to reverse the roles here.

I'm more worried about the signal having only one carrier in the Gulf sends Iran... although perhaps dropping to one and then going back to two later (if/when needed) also sends a signal.

Maybe it should send a signal to China, Japan, India and Europe to share the cost burden of protecting their petroleum/natural gas supply lines. Maybe the 25,000+ members of the Saudi Royal family could throw in part of their monthly stipends as well.

Only a small fraction of US imports originate in that region.

With the possible exception of China I certainly don't disagree with you. I don't think they care if Iran gets nukes. Nor am I sure Japan has a dog in that fight. But it is what it is. Some days I'm not even sure if I should care... and then I think better of it.
