Hey, can anyone give me some thoughts?

I'm a E4 in the Air Force, and I've finished everything from my application to my medical exams. According to the LEAD booklet, I'm off 10 points on one SAT test for the prep school, and my ACT is right on all across the board. My GPA in high school was a 3.4, but USAFA changed it to a 3.6, and a 3.0 in college for a semster. Ranked 25 out of 180 in high school. Varsity all 4 years in soccer, Eagle Scout, and like +200 service hours.

How are my chances looking? I know not so good for direct, but what about prep?

Thanks!

The common answer seems to be that your chances depend upon who you're competing against. I'm also applying for the Academy this year and I'm an enlisted Airman. I can't really make a judgement about your chances, but I can say that your package seems to be similar to mine. Last year, there were 450 airmen that applied with 60 earning a prep school slot and 1 earning a direct appointment (according to an email sent out by CMSgt Ludwig).

Best of luck!

P.S. Are you attending the LEAD Visitation Program next week?

I'll send you a private message.

Oh, and I also have a congressional nomination, and have my commanders letter of recommendation with the AF Form 1786. And I'm not going, but I'm going to try to see if I can, but I don't know if its too late or not. I found out last week by someone who is out at the Academy who is a prior.

Yeah, I think it may be too late to go. I was emailed about 3 weeks ago that I was going on the LEAD DVP by admissions (I never applied for it).

Oh, well I hope thats not going to make my package weaker since I wasn't invited. My friend said I shouldn't worry too much because he didn't go to the DVP to. Well I planned on visiting the school anyway taking that cadet-escorted tour.

In all honesty, I don't think that not going to DVP will hurt you in any way. I'm not exactly all too sure how they determine who goes and who doesn't.

The people who get the invite are usually the top 25 applicants, there is one trip in September (which I and 24 other Airmen went to), and now the 25 under us are usually invited if I'm correct. And from what the admissions staff told us, the trip isn't a guaranteed acceptance to the Academy, but it means your in a good spot for an invite to the Prep School or direct, I know of two people who have been accepted direct already who were on the trip with me, and one was going up to the boards sometime in November.
