DS is currently a Plebe at USNA. But I vividly remember the pressure cooker that waiting for that BFE (Big Fat Envelope) can be. I also remember what a pressure reliever a thread like this can be. Here's one of my posts from last year...

"Even before DS got the USNA appt, I knew that DS will be very successful in whatever he chooses to do, and wherever he chooses to go. Like the other candidates here, he is just an incredibly awesome young adult! When I watch some of the things he does I'm humbled. The tables have turned, I want to be more like him, mostly in how he treats other people. He sees opportunities to help people that I sometimes miss. And, as a fiercely patriotic person I know he'll be such a great asset to our country. He made this choice on his own, he is also fiercely patriotic, and this choice he's made is also a reason that I respect him so highly and am proud of the man he has become...

I know that all of you feel the same about your DS or DD. I hope that everyone knows that if your kids are good enough to be qualified candidates, getting a TWE will not stop them at all. It's a "bump in the road." Nothing will stop them being successful in whatever they choose to do. They're pretty awesome young men and women."

...please feel free to vent, ask questions, share frustrations, or whatever. I'll try to answer any questions that I can, but I'm certainly no expert.

For some, this will be the highest accomplishment in their lives to date. For others this will be another step towards true greatness. I have learned that even getting a nomination is something to be proud of; and we are all hoping for the best, but must prepare for our biggest fears.

Have been stalking the mailbox...but today got the good news from our congressman by phone call! So proud of our DD!

Unfortunately, after a quick visit to their website, I've found out that I have not been selected for the NROTC Scholarship. Now, I patiently watch the days go by and hope for word back from the Academy. Like they say, no news is good news! For now, time to play the "hurry up and wait game" :)

My eldest daughter is a 3C. Now we are patiently waiting to see what happens with our youngest daughter's application.

Profsparrow,

Thanks for the post. Some things are timeless.

I feel very similar towards my DS as I'm sure most of those who are parents do. Now it is just waiting for the BFE or TWE. If the TWE comes his way, I'm sure he will pick up and go on with his backup plan; if the BFE arrives, he will be ecstatic.

Thank you profsparrow! We are overjoyed right now and can't even believe this is happening.Planning on making a visit soon to Annapolis to soak it all in!!

My son is currently a freshman at The Citadel. Last semester he got a 3.368 GPA and is currently taking cal III. He also made deans list, commandants list, and presidents list. He also has three nomination, 2 senators and congressman. We still havent heard anything, any idea when we will hear?

March is when the bulk of the appointments happen. You'll see the appointment thread start getting pretty busy then. What's interesting from what I observed last year is that there is really no telling how you'll find out. I think it depends on what part of the country you're from. Sometimes you get the notification from the MoC, sometimes the "portal" updates first, and sometimes the first you'll know is when you get the BFE in the mailbox...March is only 9 days away.

Ask for CVW

Even if you've been to CVW, call your AC and ask if you can come visit again, now that you have an appointment. My son was offered CVW after his appointment even though he had already been to one. My guess is the "yard" will have a different feel to it now that you have your appointment. Congratulations and welcome to the USNA family. Cheers.

I know that this doesn't mean much to a lot of you guys, but after calling my admissions counselor (ETCS Maxwell) I was informed that I had made it through the character review board within the last few weeks and received no deductions from my overall candidacy. The one thing that I thought would disqualify me (which ended up forcing me from my enlisted Nuke contract and into HM) ended up being forgiven. He spoke with enthusiasm and knew my package and intricacies without pause. This gives me great hope and now I start to stalk the mailbox and my command email.

I hadn't heard back after two emails sent over the past five weeks and now that I know that I'm for sure at the final stage (and have been for some time apparently), unhinged by my major mistake in the past, I am confident that this may be in my grasp! Sorry if this doesn't belong in this thread, I didn't want to start a new one just for it.

Hi Luke. I assume you're prior enlisted. Your journey has been different from many of us, and equally difficult and competitive I understand. Congrats on making it this far. If you're blessed with an appointment you'll find that your fellow plebes will enjoy having someone like you that has experience in the fleet.

I am currently enlisted and although it has a few minor differences, the whole process is very similar. I have only been out of high school for three years, so I'm about as anxious as I would have been back then. I appreciate your blessings and will keep my fingers crossed. I'm hoping for an appointment to NAPS, but we'll see what the admissions board thinks.

Luke - that is great news for you! My son is still awaiting a decision, same boat but he is USMC.

TWE

What about TWE's? Would they be going out at this stage in the process, or do those all come out closer to 4/1-4/15?

Every day is a war with my mailbox. As I storm towards my mailbox, I become anxious. I put my key in the mailbox, unlock it. Stand for a second, swing it open. No big envelope. Just a stack of thin white envelopes. Heart drops. Quickly look through envelopes. No Twe. Every day this is me. Someday I will win this war.

Got news from ETCS Maxwell that I should be hearing something in the next two weeks (most likely this coming Wednesday or the following). A shipmate I was helping through the DoDMERB process got into NAPS with SAT scores upwards of 250 lower than mine. I've got some tightly crossed fingers!
