Just wondering if there were any other South Carolina parents or students out there anxiously waiting or stalking the mailbox like my DS and we are. Or any of you who already have your appointments.

It would be great to be able to support each other and pull for others from the Palmetto State.

I have received my appointment and I believe there are two others from SC on the appointment thread. I'm from SC-05.

Everything done that I can do, two nominations, believe I'm qualified, just in the waiting mode.

There is a parent's club. I went to the luncheon before being shipped out- current plebe waiting to climb. They do the luncheon for the incoming class and their parents. Mids on leave will also be there.

I know one appointee from my general region of the state.
PM if you have further questions

Good luck to all of you and congrats to those who have their appointments. We are in SC 02 and just waiting and waiting :)

The waiting is tough - one mistake I made was thinking we would have heard by mid-January (not sure why I thought that) - it was actually the last week of March that we got the call from Congressman Duncan's office!

There is a terrific parents' club, and we do have a welcome luncheon in June for all of the new plebes and their families. Due to "privacy issues", sometimes we have a hard time getting the names and contact info from USNA for the new plebes, so if you don't get a welcome from the SC USNA Parents' Club, please search us out on Facebook!

We'll be going through the application process again next year, with son #2 :) Good luck to everyone!

my son has still not heard yet, we are in SC district 02. How many people do they appoint per district?

Assuming at least one is qualified, then at least one and generally only one. However the other half of the class come from congressional districts somewhere... but it's impossible to know the distribution once the MOC slates are filled. Of course the Senatorial nominees come from some congressional district in the state, so the smaller the state in terms of # of districts, the likelihood of multiple appointments from a given district rises. For example... one can say that Alaska congressional districts always appoint 3, but that would be sort of meaningless.

Perhaps more to your point, one can say that at least one and probably two or more congressional districts in South Carolina will have multiple appointments.

Last year, I recall seeing a post where 35 appointees across the 5 SA's came from one district (not in SC). It matters more of how many competitive candidates live in a district. At least 2 came from district 6 last year. I think we have 15 from SC in the Class of 2016

Of course. But as I said we don't know the distribution and the numbers I mentioned were the minimum numbers for SC. Even if the bare minimum get appointed, one or more districts will have multiple appointees. There may be many more but we have no way of knowing.

We are waiting anxiously for our son's letter. We are in SC-Dist. 2. I'm not enjoying this part of the process.

Also, I'm new to this forum. What do "DS" and "DD" stand for?

I have a few years but am in SC-02 also. I will be hoping for nominations from Tim Scott, Lindsay Graham, or Joe Wilson.

Darling Son and Darling Daughter. I asked the same thing.

My DS is in SC-01. Has 2 nominations and we are still mailbox stalking. He just submitted new CFA scores and intends to do it one more time before Friday. Trying to shave more off of his run, he won't stop trying to improve until the cutoff. If our district is any indication, we have a very competitive state. It was amazing to see the number of students on the day of interviews with our Congressman. Talking with other parents in the lobby, there were several competing for the USNA and there were others who had already come and gone from their interviews. I imagine with SC having such a large military presence from all of the branches that there were a large number of applicants for all of the SAs. Fingers crossed!! Good luck to everyone!

Slang and Terminology

Is there a page somewhere with all the slang and terminology for us new parents?

What does CVM mean? Thanks

Last year both senators had about 100 applicants between the 4 academies that require nominations. I kind of feel bad for those in California where 900 applicants go for senatorial nominations.

I feel like those that apply from SC tend to be good candidates but honestly there are so many people around here that don't even know SA's exist.

I know one appointee from SC-1 to both USNA and AFA.

We are also in SC , my son has 4 nominations ( 2 senatorial, congressional, presidential). The waiting is tedious, have tried to understand the process as best as possible but we have come terms with an April time frame for information as to whether he is accepted. As I have said in another post: When we began this process we thought he was competitive but as time goes on I realize that the process is such that there is no way to fully understand what the decision makers will decide.

Uhhhh.... hope things work out for your son. If he applied to Univ. of South Carolina and things don't work out with the academy, then you should know they have excellent xROTC units. I'm confident that with 4 noms he should do well with regard to an appointment. It ain't over til it's over and you have almost another month to wait it out.

EDIT: I meant to add that the most recent post on this thread, prior to yours, is 5 years old. You might want to pick a different thread next time. I think the others hear have left the building.
