Good morning,
I have a question for any of you experienced parents on the forum.
I understand that Recognition is for the cadets only. However, we will be travelling to CS around that time for spring break. Will the newly recognized cadets possibly be able to leave the Academy either Saturday after Recognition or Sunday? Would the next weekend possibly be a better time to visit?? Any info about this would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Candace

Recognition is over Saturday evening.
In 2010, DS called us around 8pm CO time to say he was "casually walking diagonally across the T-zo in civvies" - he was on his way to go get something to eat (not sure where or why as they had just finished a nice class dinner where their class exemplar was revealed) - but I guess he was allowed to go off base in civvies so was taking advantage of it.

So you might be able to see your cadet Sat night, but for sure on Sunday.

The following weekend definitely at some point -- not sure if Silver or Blue weekend so that would determine Sat availability.

I'm not sure that you would want to visit at Recognition time. The C4Cs usually make plans for a road trip that weekend to get away and CELEBRATE being able to be a normal person again. You may want to coordinate with your cadet and find out their thoughts on the matter. You could also find out if they have weekend passes available as well as whether or not they have permission to leave either weekend. Best wishes (and I'm so happy that you are able to be in town for a visit). :thumb:

recognition

I am a parent of a C2C. His birthday was actually in the middle of Recognition so he had some extra special treatment if you can read between the lines! HAHA! now but not then! I remember talking to his sponsor family and they picked him up late Saturday night along with as many friends they could fit in their car and had a stress releasing birthday blowout! I do remember though that he wanted to be with the cadets he had been through hell with during that freshman year. They are still a close group today eventhough they are in different squadrons.

In past years, no freshman has been allowed off-base on the Saturday night after recognition unless picked up by a sponsor parent or parent (the academy doesn't want anyone driving...too tired), so you should be alright. However, as mentioned, your son may just want to hang out with his squadmates or get some sleep.

The following weekend (16-17 March) is blue, so he will be free from Friday afternoon until 1900 on Sunday.

I've only heard a little bit about recognition. What does it consist of? Do the upperclassen lead it? Don't the freshman receive more privileges after?

Thanks!

We live in Colorado. When my DD completed Recognition Dinner on Saturday evening, I was able to pick up her and several friends and take them to our house (overnight) and return them on Sunday. If your cadet wants to leave and is not on some kind of restriction -- you should be able to have them leave with you on Saturday night and return on Sunday. My DD could not wait to get away from the Academy -- some might want to stay with squad mates for that weekend, mine did not!
