Hello everyone,

So question when people apply for the USNA what do you have to write about yourself ? Is it a essay that changes every year or is it a specific question to describe yourself? Is there a word limit ?

( And anything else would also be appreciated )

Thanks everyone have a great day !

No clue if it changes from year to year, but for the Class of 2017, the prompt was:

(1) Describe what led to your initial interest in the naval service and how the Naval Academy will help you achieve your long range goals, and
(2) Describe a personal experience you have had which you feel has contributed to your own character development and integrity.

The essays change every so often but definitely not year to year.

Even if the question changes slightly, your senators and representative will probably ask you to answer a similar question, so it wouldn't hurt to start working on a personal statement to answer the questions above. It will help you to clarify your reasons for wanting to attend a service academy, and with a little tweaking, should serve as a personal statement for multiple applications.

The essay topics for the Class of 2016 and the Class of 2017 are the same. I suspect that the essay topics for the Class of 2018 will be similar.

It is reasonable to expect that the topics for the essay will be fairly consistent from year to year because what they are looking for is your ability to describe why you are interested in the service academy in a concise statement exhibiting good grammar, spelling, and a mature vocabulary. In other words your statement will be graded on content, style, and ability to express yourself at a high school senior's level. Take some time with the assignment.
