I am mainly interested in attending the Coast Guard Academy, but my main goal is just to serve the country, so I'm applying to all the service academies, with Air Force being my second choice.

I have already contacted my the rowing coach, as that is the sport I really want to compete in if I attend the CGA.

I'll let others comment on your chances, but I would recommend getting your story straight before applying. I can't speak for the other service academies, but we [USCGA] obviously understand that we're not always the first choice for all our applicants...we're okay with that, but we're not okay with applicants lying to us about it or anything else.

I'm in the exact same boat as you... not accepted to the AFA SS and now super focused on the AIM program. AFA is also my top choice ;) I'm actually fairly excited for the AIM program, as I hear it is the most similar to actual military life and Swab Summer (practically CGA's BCT)

I've actually lived in Colorado Springs (right by the Academy) my entire life. And as far as really wanting to be in the military, I would say that that is my primary focus, as I will be applying to each service academy. The Air Force, however, is my top choice all the way :)

Hello! I am junior in High school and I have long been interested in the service academies. That being said, USAFA is my number one choice as both my dad and my brother have attended that academy, but also because I have looked so much into it and decided that the Air Force is where I want to serve. However, I will be applying to every service academy based on my desire to serve the country. Go Air Force!!

Understood. I have, however, been doing a ton more research on the CGA and personally, the whole mission of the Coast Guard as far as helping and saving people's lives is one of the most attractive things to me that has slowly been swaying my interest in favor of CGA. For me, the Air Force Academy is a sort of family "loyalty" as much as it is a distance convenience (living in Colorado Springs and all). I have applied to the AIM program, and if I get accepted and I attend, my decision about whether or not the CGA is for sure my top choice or not will be much more clear.

Also, it was never my intention to lie to anyone just to make myself and my "chances" look better. I was actually speaking from what I really feel.

Your chances are ~1 in 10.

~2,000 will submit a completed application, ~200 will get an appointment (the rest coming from prep will already have an appt).

Candidates with higher-ranked packages than you have been rejected.

Candidates with lower-ranked packages than you have been appointed.

A lack of honesty, integrity, or character can turn the best application package right into a Thin White Envelope very easily.

Great...all we really want from our applicants is an open mind and desire to learn if the Coast Guard Academy is the right fit/place for them. I never understand how anyone can say any college or service academy is their "first choice" before participating in some form of campus visitation program or at least stepping foot on campus. I hope you get accepted to AIM, because I do think it's the best of the four service academy summer programs at showing you the good, the bad, and the ugly of being a cadet or midshipman. Obviously it's the best program for learning about USCGA and how we're different from the other service academies. I believe the other academies view their summer programs as a marketing/recruiting tool...we view AIM as more of a training tool. The primary desired outcome is for the student to decide if the Academy is the right place for them rather than to convince them the Academy is the right place for them.

Having witnessed the "correction" of am AIMster while I was a swab summer cadre, I can promise you, not only is it "not easy," but portions of it are very close to "swab summer" training.

Never write in your thought of the day "this is a joke."

And furthering that, never tell your cadre that you think it's easy either. Personally the two scariest cadre in my class in my company (both of whom were female for the record) were AIM cadre. They don't take kindly to you insinuating that they're not doing their job of training you correctly :yllol::yllol:

And, if you value your life, learn how NOT to laugh when you're being yelled at. I spent half of AIM on "smile train"...my face has never hurt so much in my life!! :shake:

wow objee you must not have a life if your looking up usafafam posts. mostly everyone lies on their applications. its none of the admissions office business if you would rather attend the air force academy. integrity is a joke in the military. the military is full of simpletons and edited.

Well, considering the last post you made on this forum before this one was in January of 2010, I'm going to chalk up your post to bitterness. Don't feed the troll.

Wow this tells me that USCGA is doing a good job when I see the type of person they did not let in
