Does anyone know the current numbers

Correct. That number is internal only. They won't likely even tell you where you are on the hold list.

How many appointments of the 250 have been given and how many have been accepted??

I've been shamelessly reading the other SA comments because many of those waiting for responses to other SAs also applied to KP. Will their decisions impact my DS by freeing up a slot??? KP is my DS's first choice. Lots of prayers at our house, hoping for the best. Good luck to your DS; I know how much he wants this too!!

Double appointments

I read the lawsuit summary from the Wisconsin candidates. It is very clear. If those WI appointments had been declined before April 1st, USMMA would have been obligated to go back to the Wisconsin alternate list to give out the next slot. One person out of 5, did just that - declined before April 1st. Therefore a 6th appointment was offered. Unfortunately, the remaining 4 did not decline until after April 1st. At that point the slots went back to the national pool and the WI candidates did not make the cut.

Bottom line: timing is everything. The candidate has earned that appointment and has the perogative to sit on it till May 1st. They probably don't realize the consequences for others. Many are still waiting for other offers. But you would think those with 2 SA appointments already would have enough facts to make a decision. But then again, USMMA gets the best candidate, so who should complain?

I might decline my USMMA nom... depends on if AF gets back to me!

How I wish you were from NY!!

Hope your dreams of AFA come true. Partly because, whether its my son or not, someone else's dreams could be realized. But also because its what you're reaching for. Best of luck to you always.

...I am from NY! Does this mean I get my wish too?

I so wish that information from the WI lawsuit could be posted all over this forum so people could realize the importance of accepting or rejecting the appointment. I posted on another thread of a student who has dreamed of USMA since he was 3 years old and has another appointment. My post was not greeted very nicely at all. Most of these kids have plan A, B, C, D and so on. They know what they want. Prayers continue daily that this is going to work out this time around. Good luck to you all.

See and when I read these "I might decline notes ...." I really understand now more than ever why my former MOC made kids choose their first choice and only offered an appointment to just that one first choice if they ended up being one of the top 10 from the district for only that Academy.

Also really wonder why if your primary goal is an AF career your fallback/second choice is USMMA vice an AFROTC program since it's a juch better way to train and become an AF officer than a program that trains people for sea-going service

Our then-Senator did so as well. And DS chose USMMA. That was his nomination (I don't think he even completed the application to the other SA) and that was his route. Four years later, as he closes in on licensing exams and graduation, he's very satisfied with his choice.:thumb:

NavySealmom- I hear you. I'm from WI and I know the whole story. That is why I posted the thread T"o Accept or Reject". That is why I wish Jasperdog's idea was a reality and that USMMA would not be a "fall back on" academy.

Again, as it's been said, USMMA MIGHT be one of the easiest academies to get into, but it is by FAR the hardest to Graduate from. 175 credits done on land in 3 years (equal to doing a Bachelors and Grad credits) with 1 year at Sea, in trimesters.

1 semester of "regular" college is condensed into a trimester, typically 13 wks long, with the 13 wk being exam week. Now tack on minimum of 2-3 sea year projects. Another words, difficult. On top of Regimental commitments, 5-6 hours of sleep per night, homework and getting that extra help for academics.

It can be done, but it requires growing up really quickly, maturity, focus, getting academic help the minute you need it, staying off Facebook, Skype (Plebes probably don't get those privileges till Recognition anyway).

By graduation year, each graduating class has lost, through people leaving on their own accord or being dismissed for academics, not quite 1/3 of the original class. At indoc, the Plebe candidates are told, "Look to your left, look to your right. One of the three of you will be gone by graduation"

I wish all the best choices for themselves. Your opportunities are immense upon graduation, the road to those opportunities are tasking, but it can be done.

This thread is getting harder and HARDER for me to read each day. My son has 3 nominations to USMMA and this is our second time to the dance. When I read the very disrespectful comments from students who have an appoinment to USMMA acting like it is an after thought I feel sick to my stomach. I wish USMMA had liason officers like Navy and Army that interviewed the students and could gage the true interest. Of course as each day goes by and DS remains on hold we become a little more discouraged. There has to be something said for knowing what you want to do and following that path no matter what.

We are new to all this. DS applied to USMMA and received a Congressional nomination. He was told he was on hold but then told in January that the class was not filled yet and would not be until after the deadline for nominations. We have been reading these threads, but other than the posts in the related thread I don't see anything new. Has anyone heard if the rest of the class has been filled? Are the candidates that are still on hold on the national waiting list at this point?
