AF ROTC February Board Results

Yup

DS has been reboarded twice. Sure beats getting denied.
 
Waiting eagerly :p been checking twice every day after it's supposed to be updating. This will be my first board so kind of worried but you know lol hoping to get reboarded if anything
 
My DD has been reboarded twice as well. We are anticipating an answer tomorrow, we have been checking twice a day all this week just in case. I know last time we heard on Thursday and received the snail mail on Friday. The anticipation is killing us. Good luck to all who are waiting!
 
Decisions have been posted on the AF portal. My DD was rejected on her third board, but will be attending U of Illinois in the fall and still joining AFROTC! Good luck to all who are waiting.

DS checked this morning and he has been awarded a 4-Year Type 7 Scholarship! :shake::shake:
 
My DS received a 4 Year Type 2 Scholarship this morning! We are thrilled for him. He made a very difficult decision to decline the ROTC Commanders Leadership Scholarship at the U of MN to continue pursuing USAFA, especially since he is a non-tech major, so it was such a relief to get a scholarship offer from the National Board.

Now just waiting for news from USAFA!

Rejected on the first board :frown:

My hope now lies in NROTC if I am to go to any of my top 6 colleges (MIT, Yale, Cornell, U-M, UVa, or RPI).
 
AF Portal says that DS has been awarded a 4 year type 7 but I do not see where it is to. He has accepted the appointment to VMI and did his interview for AFROTC at VMI but on the application he listed a second and third option. is there a way to see if he got his first option on the portal?
 
If I understand correctly, AF ROTC Scholarships are NOT tied to a specific school. Rather, they are tied to a particular Major.

Type 7 can be used for In-State schools (public I believe), or out of state with tuition reciprocity. OR you can choose to convert the Type 7 to a Type 2 3-year out of state or in-state private (I believe the max is $18k per year).

Of course the school choosen must have an AF ROTC detachment and offer the Major tied to the scholarship.

I am pretty disappointed.
I thought I was a good candidate:
3.5 GPA
1220 SAT
1000+ volunteer hours
6 Varsity Letters in several sports
Chose a critical Tech Major as number one
Great PT scores
Outstanding recommendation at least from what my interviewer told me
Multiple clubs and leadership
World Championship robotics team
Graduating with Duel honors and my Associates
 
Denied. Received a 52,000 dollar merit scholarship to ASU and a 60,000 to USD a few days ago so the bad news wasn't all too disappointing. Now to continue training for the PFT and getting that in-college scholarship!

Sorry to hear you did not receive your scholarship.

Did you only apply to AFROTC or did you apply to other branches as well.

Don't forget that you can still join AFROTC as a non-scholarship cadet. While the scholarship offers financial benefits there is no other preference within the Det. You will compete with all cadets on a level playing field. A majority of cadets graduate and commission without a scholarship.

To my fellow posters who did not receive a scholarship who were not awarded a scholarship - I am sorry to hear that you did not receive one. Unfortunately the world is not a perfect place and we can't get everything we ask for can we? I myself didn't get a scholarship, but at this point it is out of our hands. We did everything we possibly could to get one, but we didn't.

Don't get too distraught in this; I always felt scholarship awardance/Academy acceptance was always a "whoo-hoo!" amazing feat. On the flilpside, if you don't get it - can't get too disappointed, it's just something you have to accept and move on.

+1 to ahuntedyeti attitude - because that's all we can do!

Money's a great luxury to have - but never lose sight of the end goal!
 
I only applied to Air Force ROTC, looking back I feel like I should have applied to Navy ROTC too. However as another poster said, there is always the chance for in college scholarships. And maybe this is a sign to look at some other career/life routes.
 
No luck here. Oh well I'm joining rotc either way and already getting the tuition paid for so no complaints here. Good luck to all and congrats to those who have received a scholarship.

Zrxkuma--My DS received an AFROTC Type 7 last month, it is not tied to a specific school, so lots of flexibility! On the letter your DS will receive it will state whether it is technical or non-technical. Further clarification, if it is technical it means BS. As an example: BS Physics, not BA Physics. Congrats to your DS!
 
Hi everyone!

Congrats to all scholarship recipients! This is an exciting time! I had no idea they came out today and just checked! I've received a 4 Year Type 1 and am so very happy! Keep us all updated! I'm so proud of everyone on here! :)
 
I just received a 4 year type 7, but I'm still holding out for USAFA! Still, I am more than thrilled with this, especially since I only want to go a local public U if I don't go to the academy. :biggrin:

Congratulations to everyone who got something, and good luck in the future for those who did not. There are many more opportunities to come!
