Hello Everyone!

First off, congratulations to all who received a scholarship in the recent boards for various branches. It is a very exciting time for all! I was lucky and received an AFROTC Scholarship. I had a question about this all in general:

If I am just told that I received a scholarship, does that mean it can be applied to any of my top three schools that I listed on my application? I had no specific schools listed in my information packet, but as with all applicants, I had the first choice, second choice and third choice written up on the application.

Thanks to all!

I believe you can take your scholarship anywhere in the country - provided that said school has an AF Det. The nice thing about the AF scholarship, is that it is a nationally-based scholarship. Whereas the Army's and Navy (+ Marine Option) is not. Their money is tied specifically to a school. So for their scholarships, it is absolutely necessary to have school choices. Now, for the AF scholarship - I still never understood the point of having schools listed, since you can take the scholarship anywhere ...

So, yes you can take the scholarship to any of the schools you listed haha.

Congrats on your scholarship!! You are one of the very very few applicants who were awarded!

To piggy back a little bit on the last post: You can take a Type 1 or Type 2 to any school that has an AF Det. and the approved technical or non-technical major. Type 7 scholarships must be used at your in-state public school with a Det. and the approved major, unless converted to a 3 year type 2.

Thank you all! This helps a lot! And I appreciate the kind words!:thumb:

My DS has had no problem switching his 4-year Type 7 AFROTC to a 3-year Type 2 (public to private University). Following along with the other posts, you do not have to go to a school that has a Det, but could also go to a school that has a "crosstown" arrangement. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I don't even think you are restricted to the Top 3 schools on your application as long as the University you choose is on the AF approved list...See the AFROTC college locator: afrotc.com/college-locator/overview/

What type scholarship did you receive? Type 1, type 2 or type 7?

Well hey - if you got a Type I, then you've got it made :thumb:

... in fact, they should be begging for you to come to their school.

I truly appreciate the kind words! I'm really hoping that it all works out. My top choice is simply a DREAM! We'll see what happens!

Wow! Congrats on the type 1. Yes, you can go to any of the schools you have been accepted that have AF ROTC.
