I was wondering if once your child picks their clothing size can they change the size once there if it was wrong? I'm 95% sure my DS got it right by looking at the sizing chart they give.

ALSO

It's my understanding all the clothing goes home with them. I'm guessing he should be sent with his hockey bag half full. Would that be too assuming or right on track?

I don't know about changing sizes once they get there. But they do get to keep the T-s, shorts, sweats, etc. Hope your kid has a great time...

This is the Military. What you get is what you get.

Pack a garbage bag in his bag. The cloths he will bring home will be wet, dirty and smell very bad.

Do not pack anything like a highschool lettermans jacket. Midshipman laugh at those and tend to riddicule the students that bring them.

Honestly the sizes aren't perfect. A lot of people seemed to have problems with the sweatpants and sweatshirts being too small/large. Last year we received 4/5 colored shirts, a sweatshirt, two pairs shorts, a pair of sweatpants and two very nice USNA dri-fit workout shirts. The sweatpants were worn to go "swimming" in the river and I donated them when I got home. Make sure to bring a few pairs of tan khakis and a belt. Besides that I didn't need much else. They give you everything else on the first day. Also consider bringing two pairs of shoes, one for the CFA and morning PT and the other for the dirty day:rolleyes:

Nice...

Yea...I like that, just like it was in bootcamp, you get what they give you. Boy I wish I could film that parental comic relief.

A plastic bag, yes!!! Dirty and smelly, can't wait for the bride (23 years) to open that bag. I truly enjoy any moment that will give me a laugh! I would normally lend a hand with the laundry but now that I know this I just have to find an excuse. A pricless moment of fun all for me!

No worries on the letterman jacket, my DS is not a fan either...safe!

Thank you for the feedback!

I don't think you can change sizes. He won't need any clothes other than socks and underwear. They are given enough shorts and tee shirts for each day plus a sweat suit. They do need sheets, pillow and towel. My son had a great time last year, hope yours does too!

Agreed on all counts. The t-shirts and sweatshirt are pretty much the same size as any other unisex t-shirt you might get from an trip/event/team order etc. The dri-fit shirt is a bit looser, but not a whole size worth. I actually wore mine to practice today. The shorts are also about the same way, loose and roomy like most other gym shorts, and they do have a drawstring if they're too loose. The sweatpants as far as I can tell were quite roomy on everyone, which is fine until they're water-and-sand-logged from the adventure in the Severn.
When they were distributed when we arrived I seem to recall that they weren't overly fond of people changing sizes, so do be a bit careful not to select the wrong size.
I brought many clothes with me that I never used, but did use all my pairs of shoes, (2 pairs of sneakers plus my Vibram 5-fingers). I did dispose of the set of old sneakers that accompanied me into the Severn.
Definitely bring plenty of underwear and socks, as well as the mentioned sheets, pillow, and towel. If your son likes to be warmer when he sleeps, throwing in a blanket would be a good plan too (something I forgot and regretted in Bacroft's AC and the relatively mild weather of the week I attended NASS).
I've kept all the clothes I got last year (I chose to rescue the still-stained sweats) and wear them to practice quite often, the shorts in particular.

Outstanding...

Thank you for the feedback everybody, good stuff. The web site didn't ask for the dri-fit size just pants, T, shorts, & hoodie.

I'll tell him about the extra blanket; he can make the call on that.

Two sets of running shoes appear to have a lot of importance. He is working out now so I'll see what he has or needs, new skips will not help. Breaking something in now would be a good idea.

Maximize the socks and underwear and minimize the civilian clothing. Wine and dinner for me and the bride in town once we kick him to the curb.

Cheers...
