Yay guys! After months of waiting I got a 3 Year Scholarship (I'm already a freshman at Chapel Hill; rising sophomore) for NROTC-Marine Option! Best Regards to everyone else :)!

No thank you. Everyone on this forum has been a great help in guiding me through the application process and what not!

Worldtraveler, I was notified this morning via phone call at 10:14am by the Officer who takes care of all the NROTC-MO applicants. Hopefully you guys will hear soon. My best guess is that you'll hear via phone call given that in past years it seems that the website portal wasn't always kept up to date. If anything doesn't come up in the next few days I don't think it would hurt to get in contact with the officer who handled your son or daughter's application. Best of luck to you and your applicant!

DS received the phone call with good news late Friday afternoon
The school / unit assignment is still pending.

Congrats Cat57. There's nothing better than NROTC MO in my opinion. Hope your DS gets the school he desires or is at least acceptable!

Congrats to you and your son Cat57.

For you and everyone receiving the late news: I recognize that there will be some scrambling regarding the school and locking in with deposits etc, I wanted to remind you that there will be a lot of scholarship transfers, academy acceptances, etc that may open a slot at a school you are interested in.

Not too long ago there were units that ended up with empty slots through this process. So you may need to take some parallel paths at this point. Lock in to the school you got the scholarship to and concurrently request a transfer waiting to see how it shakes out.

Perhaps someone who has successfully negotiated that aspect of the process can provide some guidance?

Congratulations again!

KINNEM & USMCGRUNT - Thanks for your kind words and advice. I was remiss in my earlier post in not acknowledging all of the support this forum has provided during the process. Thanks to all of the generous folks here who have provided insight and perspective to my son and me. The boy says he will be happy with any school/unit that he is assigned to which is great. He did not get accepted to his first choice school (which was not entirely unexpected), however, he was accepted to all of the other schools on his list and they are all great schools that he will thrive at. He is my only and the reality that he is that much closer to starting the next chapter of his life really hit me when he got the call yesterday. I will post an update when we know where he is headed.

Cat57: There are plenty of us on the forum who have gone through that. In addition, there are current and former active duty members, ROTC parents, and a wide range of experienced folks willing to help both you and your DS now and in the future. Just ask!

UPDATE: DS's portal changed mid day and identified his school selection. He was awarded the scholarship to his second choice school (OOS) which worked out well for him since he did not get accepted to his first choice which was a reach. Can't wait to see him tonight and celebrate his accomplishment.

Cat57: Congratulations to you and your DS.

Couldn't work out much better than that!

Congratulations! Someone must be living right!
